CROSS COUNTRY LAST WEEK
The Lyons were back on the course at the 2018 NCAA New England Regional Championships last weekend. The Lyons placed 17th among the field of 57 teams with 575 points. It marked the best finish for Mount Holyoke at Regionals in the last 10 years and a notable improvement as the squad was 39th a season ago. Pacing the effort for Mount Holyoke was sophomore Simone Jacob, who capped her outstanding second year with a 66th place finish and a personal record time at this year's regionals. She posted a time of 23:23.37 in a field of 399 runners. It marked her fourth-straight finish first across the line for the Lyons this season.
RIDING last week
It was another victorious day for the Mount Holyoke College riding team, which secured its fifth consecutive high point collegiate title with a win at the Worcester State University Show. The event, which was hosted at Maplewood Farm, saw the Lyons notch 38 points to hold off second-place Smith (29 points). At the end of the day, senior Jordan Green (pictured) was named Reserve High Point Novice Rider.
SWIMMING AND DIVING last week
It was another victory for the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team, who bested Westfield State University by a 160-139 margin in dual meet action on Saturday. Senior Bri Groves posted three victories on the day, while junior diver Samantha Nemivant (pictured) won off both boards, including an NCAA Qualifying mark in the 3-meter event.
hoops opens season this week
The Lyons 2018-19 season got underway last week as MHC shouldered tough losses by just nine points to both Bay Path and Southern Vermont. Impressive in her rookie debut was first year Annika Brooks, who averaged a double-double of 11.5 points and 13.0 rebounds per contest while averaging 37.5 minutes per game.
