Content Info For The Week

Math (Carver, Beasley, and Meeks): Students will continue to solve multi-step equations throughout the week and determine the equations' type of solutions. Students will math MAP test on Wednesday.

Algebra I (Meeks): Students will explore special case equations in the first part of the week. Wednesday all students will be math MAP testing. Geometric relationships will be our focus after MAP testing.

Read 180 (Styron and Barker): Students will complete the Reading MAP test on Tuesday Aug. 17th. In addition, students will use active viewing and listening strategies to build background and content knowledge about key ideas from a video, use content-area vocabulary and generate relevant examples to deepen understanding of a central content-area concept, and identify the key idea of an informational text.

ELA (MacArthur and Lee): This week, students will shift their focus to plot analysis as we prepare to start our novel for the unit. Students will begin creating plot diagrams, working with context clues to strengthen their vocabulary, and identifying different types of figurative language

9th Grade Lit (Lee): This week in Mrs. Lee's class, students will examine the development of a hero's journey by doing a close-read of common Greek myths, including the myth of Achilles and Hercules. Students will also compare the poem "Ithaca" to the Part 1 of The Odyssey, and participate in a Socratic Seminar where they will discuss Aristotle's remarks on Homer's work.

Science (Winkworth and Herndon): Students are taking a Science Test on Tuesday and Wednesday covering the topics of Potential and Kinetic Energy and the Law of Conservation of Energy. At the end of the week, the students will dig deeper into the Law of Conservation of Energy and how energy transforms to all the different types of energy

Social Studies (MacArthur and Collier): This week in Georgia Studies, students will continue to work on connecting themes, and are preparing to begin the geography of Georgia.
