Danza Anahuac Anayareli Nunez & Raul Reyes

Claudia Reyes is the leader of Danza Anahuac. This Danza was established to give thanks to the Virgin of Guadalupe and San Judas for the many blessings she has received from them, as well as to teach our new generations this tradition.

Leader Kevin Galindo has been dancing for 5 years

The Danzantes (dancers) start practicing in September and end in November when the Danzadas start. There are 40 dancers who love dancing. The dancers age varies from 12 and up.

Mrs. Reyes' first year of danza was stressful. She did not know how to design the skirts that they wear or the dancing steps. everything had to be started from scratch. 2nd year was also a little stressful but not as stressful because she had the steps and the design of everything. the 3rd year was when things started to get better and had the chance to fix mistakes from the first 2 years. Now, it is her 6th year and they sometimes have some stress but nothing like the first years. the only stress comes from the new comers who don't know anything about Danza.

Now that the group is well balanced, Danza Anahuac will go to Mexico City during spring break to dance infront of the Basilica and a week after they will go to Dallas for some bonding time. As a "team bonding" activity after the midnight parade and church on December 11th, they go to ihop to celebrate another successful year dancing.

After seeing how the group feels more comfortable with each other, Mrs. Reyes says that she will continue doing Danza to teach the generations the tradition and culture of it for many years to come. Some Danzas have been doing this for more than thirty years and she hopes that her, the leaders, and the dancers will continue this legacy for as many years as they can, as well asher 3 kids are part of the Danza and she hopes that they will continue what she has started.
