THIS WEEK
The Coker College softball team (23-9, 1-2) is geared up a pair of South Atlantic Conference doubleheaders starting with a home showdown with Wingate on Wednesday (Mar. 27) starting at 2:00 PM. Following the matchup with the Bulldogs, Coker will travel to nationally-ranked Carson Newman on Saturday (Mar. 30) for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM.
The Cobras began last week with a 19-3 drubbing of preseason conference favorites Lenoir-Rhyne before splitting non-conference doubleheaders with Mount Olive and Lander.
Wingate enters Wednesday's contest at 24-8 this season, including 5-1 in conference play. The Bulldogs recently dropped out of the NFCA poll despite riding a six-game winning streak after being ranked 20th in the nation the previous week. Prior to the season they were selected by conference coaches to finish fourth while garnering one first-place vote.
Carson-Newman has been excellent once again after taking home the South Atlantic Conference Softball Championship over the Cobras last season. The Eagles are currently ranked ninth in the latest NFCA poll and are currently 14-5 and 1-5 in conference play with Anderson on the schedule before they travel to Hartsville. Conference play has not been kind thus far as the Eagles are currently in the midst of a four-game skid.
