December Nights is an annual event in San Diego. It's 2 nights where Balboa Park transforms in Holiday, Winter, Christmas happening. It's one of the most attended (read PACKED) events in San Diego often drawing more than 350,000.
For the last couple years, I've gone with my son Sean, to have a Daddy and Son night at the Park. I've really enjoyed this time for us to hang out, visit a few of the museums (which are open for free these nights) and experience the spectacle.
This night, Sean and I chose some yummy sausage sandwiches, found a spot on a bench and savored our dinner before heading out into the fray.
Balboa Park houses many museums with a variety of themes. A few examples include the Museums of Air and Space, Sports, Automotive, Art, Man, Natural History, Photography and Science. This time were were only able to visit 3 museums. Since they are free, they were packed with visitors.
The weather was "chilly" (at least it was for us Southern California natives). It felt good to step into heated museums, but then back out into the crisp air.
Sean enjoys recreating good feelings and special times. Last year we had hot chocolate on the cold night. This time around we had to make sure that we didn't miss out on that experience.
December Nights is overcrowded. Parking and Traffic are a challenging frustration. It's cold and the food is expensive.
Being able to hang out with my son and create some memories: totally worth it.
