Coker Women's Soccer vs. Montevallo Match Preview

A Glance at the Cobras

The Coker College women's soccer team will host the University of Montevallo on Wednesday (Oct. 10) in non-conference action at 3:00 PM on the Coker Athletic Field. Live stats and video will be available at www.cokercobras.com.

Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students, and free to all Coker faculty, staff, and students.

Last Time Out

The Navy and Gold head into Wednesday's match after falling to the Mars Hill University Lions 2-1 on Oct. 6. Farrah Brown led the Cobras offensively with two shots and one on goal. In addition, Lillia Rodriguez, Dominique Walker, and Claire Slamka tallied one shot each. In between the pipes, Alexandra Brown collected seven saves.

The Navy and Gold started the match with confidence and took an early 1-0 lead from an unassisted goal by Meredith Kennedy in the 9th minute. Both teams played stout defense the rest of the way until Mars Hill broke loose with two goals in the final two minutes of play.

As mentioned, Kennedy recorded the Cobas lone goal of the afternoon and fired off a team-high four shots. Gaby Sturla, Dominique Walker, and Georgia Reece all notched one shot each. In goal, Alexandra Brown collected seven saves.

Player to Watch

Farrah Brown has recorded six shots on year, good for second-best on the team. The junior midfielder has placed two shots on goal and has started all seven games for the Navy and Gold.

Brown is an exercise science major and is the daughter of Cindy Brown-Burke and Jason Burke.

Scouting the Montevallo Falcons

The University of Montevallo Falcons head into Wednesday's matchup with a 5-5-2 overall record and a 4-4 mark in Gulf South Conference play. The Falcons have defeated Embry-Riddle (1-0), Shorter (2-0), Lee (3-2), Spring Hill (4-0), and UAH (7-0). Montevallo began the season being selected to finish 8th in the GSC preseason poll.

Two freshmen were also highlighted by the conference as part of the top newcomers in the GSC.

Romee Contreras, a freshman forward from Rancho Cucamonga, California, and Medhali Hernandez, a freshman midfielder/defender from Riverside, California, were recognized as top newcomers in the conference.

Player to Watch

Contreras, a native of Cucamonga, California currently leads the Falcons offensive attack with 13 points off of five goals and three assists. The freshman forward has fired off 28 shots, which includes 15 on goal. Contreras leads the Falcons with three game-winning goals.
