“The owner and local design review board had specific aesthetic requirements that precast was economically able to meet. The integral color, medallions, and various thin brick types accomplished all goals and preserved the construction schedule by avoiding complexities associated with timely perimeter scaffolding, lifts and masonry labor. The architectural components, along with the typical speed of delivery/install of a precast structure assisted in the schedule of completion of the abutting wood frame multifamily structures.”

Mark Lane, Director of Production for BSB Design, Inc. – Charlotte, N.C.

In the rapidly expanding South Dayton area known as Austin Landing, Fortus Group saw a need for a central multifamily development within the district. The desired project size within the available land inherently lent itself to the need for the housing to wrap a multi-level parking garage on two sides. In collaboration with Fortus, Buckingham Companies worked with the design team to determine that precast was the best fit for the project. Buckingham specifically desired the use of architectural integral color concrete and thin brick to minimize site impacts and scheduling risks. The project used split face masonry formliner that successfully replicated the masonry on site. Cast-in cut thin brick was also used that matched the exact brick used for the remainder of the project. The project was a great overall success!
