Edgewood City Schools Title 1 family night

Students and families from all three elementary schools had the opportunity to participate in reading activities about space and enjoy a snack while they awaited their turn to explore the night sky from inside the Dome Theatre provided by Drake Planetarium. This was a great night for families to share in their child's learning in a fun and interactive environment.

Edgewood High School Virtual Academy News

On November 22nd, the Virtual Academy staff and students collaborated with SME, EMS, and EES to collect canned goods for the Mt. Olivet Church food pantry. The Virtual Academy students collected all canned goods from the schools and delivered them to the food pantry. The food will help over 200 local families through the holiday season. The Virtual Academy would like to thank Ms. Hunt and all of the schools for their contributions to this great cause! Over the last 2 ½ years the Virtual Academy has a 93% graduation rate, while graduating 94 students. We are anticipating our 100th graduate sometime in February.

Madison Haag was chosen as a winner for Scholastic Storyworks Dollar Contest. In Social Studies class we read an infographic about the dollar bill. She then analyzed the information from the infographic and composed a letter to her "cousin" who has never seen a dollar bill before. She was one of 5 winners chosen from across the United States.

Babeck Early Childhood Center Classroom Spotlight

Babeck 1st grade students just finished a unit on landforms and pilgrims. They learned about different landforms that are around the world. They learned about how the pilgrims and Wampanoag Indians lived long ago. They were able to find similarities and differences between then and now. They also created a village to represent the homes of what it might have looked like. They joined the rest of the Babeck student body in celebrating a Thanksgiving Feast (Charlie Brown style) on Tuesday before break.

edgewood elementary Veterans Day Breakfast

EES recently held its annual Veterans Day breakfast! There was a great turnout with music, great food, and a great show of support for our Veterans! The event was covered by Spectrum news! We would like to give a special shoutout to the EHS band, all who helped in any way, and Emily Tilton for organizing the event.

Edgewood High School Shadow a student Challenge

In November several Edgewood High School staff members participated in Shadow a Student Challenge. The goal of the activity was for staff members to participate in the day to day activities of a student. Staff was encouraged to take tests, participate in elective classes like gym and choir, and eat lunch with their shadow student in the cafeteria. Students and staff enjoyed the shadow day as the high school continues to focus on the 3 R’s (Rigor, Relationships, and Relevance). Another Shadow a Student Challenge Day will be scheduled for second semester.
