Routes Europe 2017 Highlights from a record-breaking event in Belfast, Northern Ireland

Routes Europe 2017 was hosted by Team Northern Ireland at the Belfast Waterfront.

5,000 meetings

It was a record-breaking event with 5,000 meetings taking place over three days.

111 Airlines

300 Airports

Almost 1,200 route development professionals from 111 airlines and 300 airports and destinations attended the event.

Undiscovered Ireland

At the Routes Europe 2017 press conference Belfast’s senior aviation and tourism leaders agreed that increased air connections are vital to the future of the “undiscovered part of Ireland”.

A Warm Welcome!

The Welcome Reception was held in Belfast’s historic City Hall. Delegates were treated to entertainment from local musicians and a fire eater!

“The Future Amazon of Air Travel”

A highlight of the Live Content Programme was an interview with Ryanair’s Chief Marketing Officer, Kenny Jacobs, about the airline’s strategic priorities.

A Titanic Evening!

The Networking Evening and Routes Europe 2017 Marketing Awards took place in Titanic Belfast - the ‘World’s Leading Tourist Attraction’ (World Travel Awards 2016).

Everyone's a Winner!

Munich Airport were declared the overall winners of the Routes Europe 2017 Marketing Awards.

Next Stop Bilbao

On the final day Routes Europe was officially handed over to the Basque City of Bilbao, the host destination for 2018. Next year’s event will be hosted by the Basque Government and Basquetour at Bilbao Exhibition Centre.
