Bicycle Tour on Grand Island Recreational area of Hiawatha National Forest

When mining flourished on the Western Peninsula in the 1840s, Schooner transported people, supplies, iron and copper on Lake Superior. The Grand Island, offshore of Munising, MI, served as a shelter from bad weather and storms. Later, when the steam ships took over, the island supplied them with firewood and coal. Today the island is re-naturalized and is managed as a recreation area by the Hiawatha National Forest. Ideal for camping, hiking and cycling.

The panorama views from the island have an almost Caribbean flair.
Numerous viewpoints invite you to stay.
