Amendment 6 the right to speedy trial by jury, witnesses, counsel

Description

The Sixth Amendment guarantees a cluster of rights designed to make criminal prosecutions more accurate, fair, and legitimate. But the institutions of American criminal justice have changed markedly over the past several centuries, forcing courts to consider how old rights apply to new institutions and procedures.

Real life example

One example of a real life situation would be a teenager driving without a license, but driving around a closed parking lot.Someone could take them to court for driving without a license, but they will be able to have someone defend them and not be immediately accused.

Another real life example could be a teenager downloading songs off the internet and doesn't keep in mind the records are being kept. Then the teenager lets other people download and suddenly someone decides to tell. The teenager can argue that he wasn't the one downloading.

How it effects us

It effects us because if we didn't have Amendment six, then we would would have to stand up for ourselves.I am glad that we have lawyers because lawyers help us and help us not get put into jail.If we didn't have lawyers in out lives then when we stand up for ourselves there's a chance that we could mess up on what we are saying and it could be a chance we could get out in jail either way.
