Activity 1

Presentations and discussions at monthly staff meetings

We teamed up in groups of two to present and discuss one of the PRIDE values during monthly staff meetings.

Staff Members: Aeshah Al-Nagdawi and Stephen Bruer

Presentation:

2 skits based on a typical phone call interaction between a Faculty member and an Education Coordinator regarding the creation of an ExamSoft exam. The first was an example of what not to do, the second was an example of what you should do as a professional. The skits followed with group conversation of what to do, not to do, and why.

Discussion Topics:

Professionalism, specialized knowledge, competence, reliability, self-regulation, organization skills, accountability, and building expertise.

Staff Members: Polly Chew and Marisa McFarlane

Presentation:

A skit of a talk show called "The PM Show" on the topic of respect and what it means to the hosts personally and professionally - based on a natural conversation between the hosts. Visual imagery is used as representation of the themes discussed and presented in the form of an Adobe Spark presentation. The hosts engaged with the audience (staff) for comments and had a brief discussion.

Discussion Topics:

Respecting elders, The Golden Rule, team support, bubbles of space, respecting privacy and space, respecting international customs, respecting time, workplace values, acknowledgement of staff and accomplishments, etc.

Staff Members: Kylie Ball and Alexa Tan

Presentation:

A video presentation on what comprises integrity for themselves, the OEIS team, and the UCSF community. Both Alexa and Kylie voiced-over animated, graphic design, and photography video content. A conversation developed on what integrity means personally and professionally.

Discussion Topics:

Honesty, trust, admitting mistakes & resolving problems, asking for help and helping others, teamwork / support - for example, efforts to remain in support of DACA and DREAMERS: students studying at UCSF through the DREAM Immigration Act.

Staff Members: James Ferguson and Adam Martyn

Presentation:

An introduction to an article on Teaching Cultural Diversity in medical schools and conversation among the group on our reactions and thoughts on the subject.

Discussion Topics:

Increasing diversity standards and education in medical institutions, as well as how to do this specifically in the new 2018 & Beyond curriculum in School of Pharmacy through co-curricular activities (volunteering, conferences) experiential activities (OSCEs, Motivational Interviewing), electives (LGBTQ, Law & Ethics), etc.

Staff Members: Kylie Leung and Rodney Yun

Presentation:

A PowerPoint presentation on how they view excellence in the workplace and how they embody excellence in what they do everyday. Discussion followed on what excellence in the workplace means to everyone.

Discussion Topics:

Excellence encompasses all of the PRIDE values (Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Diversity = Excellence), we can always do more to learn how to and express this value, as well as encourage others to do so.

OEIS PRIDE inspired designs on everything! Diversity in inclusion.

Activity 4

UCSF Recognize

A UCSF-wide recognition program that replaces Campus Life Services Quality Service Awards. Recognize allows any UCSF employee to recognize any other UCSF employee. Regular, meaningful recognition not only helps staff feel valued, but it can also improve productivity and well-being at UCSF.
