Welcome! "The Most Southern Place on Earth" June 2019 Workshop

Thirty-six teachers from across the country gathered at Cleveland's Martin and Sue King Railroad Museum today to kick off the Delta Center’s "Most Southern Place on Earth" June workshop. Marking the program's ten year anniversary, this cohort will spend the next week fully immersed in Delta culture, absorbing its history, enjoying its unique sounds and flavors, and traveling to several historic landmarks throughout the region.

Participants got to know each other while snacking on Delta delicacies. They shared conversation over plates of pickled okra, pimento sandwiches and spiced rum cake.

Gathering for the first time after some long commutes, the teachers settled into Cleveland. For many of them, this trip marks their first visit to the Delta.

Dr. Herts, Director of the Delta Center and workshop co-director, addressed the group, preparing the teachers for the long, interactive week ahead. For now, a good night's rest... tomorrow starts bright and early!
