Celebrating the class of 2021 by: Jane Yu

After another year of the pandemic since last year's graduation, the class of 2021 yet again is faced with an abnormal end of the year. In order to celebrate, LZ continued an event new to last year - the senior car parade.

Although the pandemic made the high school experience different for Avery Jarcik, senior, the pandemic didn't stop her from being "super excited."

"I can't wait, just to go off to college and start a new chapter of my life. I think the school did such a good job this year trying to help seniors and make it a good year so I think that was good," Jarcik said.

Grace O'Malley agreed, commenting how nice it was to have a parade to commemorate their final year of high school.

"It's kind of nerve wracking, but I'm mostly excited I feel like I'm ready to move on," O'Malley said. "I think the school did the best that they could with the things going on, and with the circumstances given, I am proud of senior year."

Like several of the other seniors in the parade, Grace Lightfoot, senior, had some decorations added to her car. The parade was a nice way to end high school with the community supporting the seniors, says Lightfoot.

"Honestly, it was just really cool seeing the whole community just come out and celebrate us. There were actually a lot of people in the route. So it was just nice seeing people come out and congratulate us," Lightfoot said. "It feels really nice just knowing that you're done, but doesn't feel real at the same time."

According to Zara Mkrtychian, senior, the parade provided a unique way for the class of 2021 to get together and enjoy their last year.

"It was really nice seeing everyone in their cars and a lot of people also met up outside," Mkrtychian said. "There were some kids playing spike ball before the parade started so everyone was coming together saying hi. It was really fun seeing everyone cheering us on, so I really liked it."

Like Mkrtychian, Justin Kutsor, senior, added how the parade had a "positive atmosphere" and was "really enjoyable."

"I can't say I've ever had anything quite like it," Kutsor said. "Regardless of the pandemic or anything, it was really just nice to see a bunch of different people in the community all like kind of celebrating us."
