Football Performance

Mission

Our mission is to ensure the complete development of our athletes in order that they will be able to compete at a high level in the Southeastern Conference. Our program is designed to attack every aspect of training that is essential for an athlete to have the best chance to be successful on a yearly basis. Our coaches have a tremendous amount of experience, and are extremely knowledgeable in all areas of core, speed, strength, power and explosive training. Our staff also works diligently every year on continually educating ourselves on new and innovative training techniques in order to ensure that we are pushing the boundaries of all aspects of performance-based training programs. We strive to train our athletes at a championship level, in order that we will compete at a championship level year in and year out.

Corey Edmond, Director of Performance

Corey Edmond enters his 26th season working in collegiate football, his sixth in the strength and conditioning program at Kentucky.

Since arriving at Kentucky in 2013, Edmond has been an integral part of the Wildcats' success.

Known for his great pedigree and outstanding credentials on improving player development, Edmond has coached more than 30 NFL players, including Terrell Owens (UTC), Roy Williams (Oklahoma), Josh Heupel (Oklahoma), Jason White (Oklahoma), Chris Henry (Arizona) and Rob Gronkowski (Arizona) just to name a few. NFL athletes who trained under Edmond at Kentucky include Bud Dupree (Steelers), Farrington Huguenin (Steelers), Garrett Johnson (Bears), Za'Darius Smith (Ravens), Jon Toth (Eagles) and Avery Williamson (Jets).

Edmond came to the Bluegrass after one season at his alma mater, North Carolina State, as the head strength and conditioning coach.

Mark Hill, Director of Performance/Head Strength Coach

Mark Hill is in his third season as Kentucky’s director of performance and head strength and conditioning coach, helping Coach Corey Edmond oversee all facets of the strength and conditioning program.

Prior to being hired at Kentucky, Hill spent five seasons (2011-15) as the head strength and conditioning coach at Indiana. With the Hoosiers, Hill mentored three first-team All-Americans - offensive linemen Dan Feeney and Jason Spriggs in 2015, and Tevin Coleman in 2014, who rushed for over 2,000 yards in a season. The three All-Americans were the most for Indiana over a two-year period since 1968-69 (3). Overall, 38 Hoosiers earned All-Big Ten honors.

He also spent four years (2007-10) as the head strength and conditioning director at Minnesota where 19 of his student-athletes earned All-Big Ten recognition. He was a part of two bowl games, as the Gophers advanced to the Insight Bowl in both the 2008 and 2009 seasons.

Tyler Malone, Assistant Strength Coach

Tyler Malone started his role as Kentucky's assistant strength and conditioning coach in 2019.

Malone spent the previous two seasons as an intern in the football weight room, learning under Edmond and Hill. He also spent a season as a student strength and conditioning coach for women’s basketball and football at his alma mater, Eastern Kentucky. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and has an AED/CPR certification.

Malone was a three-year letter winner as a tight end at EKU from 2013-17.
