Course Requirements
Important information for all assignments: Always follow APA 7 format unless otherwise specified in a particular assignment. Consult writing resources on Blackboard for information as well as APA purdue owl. Grading rubrics are available on blackboard and all assignments will be graded strictly by the rubrics. Specific feedback on how to improve in future assignments will be provided once the assignment has been graded. Thoroughness and clarity are important aspects of each assignment.
Discussions: There will be online discussions via Blackboard discussion board. These are about *all* the articles assigned weekly. You must include at least 2 posts, and in at least 1 of them you must interact with your classmates. These interactions must add to the discussion and not simply state agreement or disagreement. In at least 1 post you must state your opinion regarding the past, current, or potential application of information of the articles. No APA required for this assignment. Check out the discussion rubric on blackboard or *here*
Mini-documentary: Students will select a local sport organization to do a mini-documentary about. This should be done upon reflection of the student’s values and perceived fit between the student and the organization as determined by the student. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain permission from their selected organization (**not the class instructor or academic coaches**) to create a 3-5 minutes mini-documentary for them and collaborate with its stakeholders to create a documentary that represents the organization well. Examples of stakeholders include administrators, coaches, athletes, spectators, etc. This project will be evaluated by an organization representative, academic coaches, and self-evaluated. You can find more detailed mini-doc information *here*. No APA required.
Mini-documentary evaluation: Have someone from the organization watch the documentary you produced for them and fill out the feedback form. *Here* is the form. You will need insight into their feedback when you write your reflection paper, it would be wise to discuss this with them as they fill out the form.
Mini-documentary reflection paper: Make a 1-2 page reflection paper on 1) what you learned from making a documentary (about the organization and about sport communication), 2) their feedback, and 3) what did you learn about sport communication after the feedback (i.e. how it related to the class). APA is required. You will need to discuss the organization’s feedback with them. It would be wise to do so as they are filling it o t. *Here* is the form they will need to fill out.
Synthesis: A synthesis in its most basic form is a combination of ideas. In this case, you will combine the assigned source with other peer-reviewed sources. Step 1 – read the assigned article(s). Step 2 – Summarize the assigned articles in 200-250 words. Step 3 – In another 200-250 words give examples of how this articles relate to each other (for a total of 400-500 words). Step 4 - Submit on blackboard as a PDF. At the very least you must cite 2 articles assigned that week. All other facts you include in your paper must be properly cited and referenced. If you have had other classes with me please note synthesis are different from annotations, they serve a different purpose (i.e. the content is different) and they are formatted differently per APA. I expect these differences to be reflected in your work. You can see the assignment rubric *here*
