Long Tradition Comes to an End - the 25th Annual Dick Compton Memorial Lions Shootout
As the saying goes "all good things must come to an end." So it is with the long and proud tradition of the annual Lions Shootout basketball event. Times have changed and scheduling teams has become nearly impossible even when scheduling 18 - 24 months in advance.
The event, originally spearheaded by Dick Compton and more recently by Brad Westrum has featured some of the areas top teams, many times including the top ranked team in the state. A fun feature of the event has included the shooting contests where players participate in the free throw, 3 point and dunk contests. This has been both a fan and player favorite. The South Forks Lions wish to thank everyone for their support of this event, from sponsors to spectators to coaches and players. The Lions wish to extend a thank you to the Grand Forks Central High School administration for graciously allowing for the use of their facility. A big thank you also goes out to the many volunteers who help make the event possible.
Though the event is coming to an end, you still have the opportunity to support the Lions one last time while watching some of the areas best athletes. We'll see you on Saturday, February 8, at 11:30 a.m., at the Grand Forks Central High School Gymnasium. We look forward to seeing you there.
