Storyteller encompasses the outstanding work from students, alumni, faculty and staff who represent the School of Communications, Media, Arts and Design’s creative and extraordinary spirit.
This edition features many outstanding graduate stories and our GRAD-preneur series that showcases graduates who have taken great entrepreneurial strides and started their own businesses. It also highlights student achievements in a variety of our programs, including A Walk Together – a project done by our Broadcasting students in collaboration with students in the United Kingdom. Closer to home, Art and Design Fundamentals graduate and current Graphic Design student Rafael Bertoldo had his design selected to appear on cans from Collective Arts Brewing. Lastly, our exceptional faculty continue to raise the bar both personally and professionally. I am delighted to introduce Chitra Anand, who recently joined us and brings tremendous industry experience to our school. I also hope you will find a moment to enjoy the latest music release from Music Industry Arts and Performance program coordinator Jesse Feyen.
2021 has started with many outstanding achievements, and I am proud of the entire School of Communications, Media, Arts and Design community that delights us every day with their innovation and originality.

Television & Film – Business Grad, Temilola Adebayo, Accepted into CFC Producers’ Lab
Temilola Adebayo, a 2018 graduate of the Television & Film – Business program, has embarked on an exciting opportunity with the Canadian Film Centre. She will be partaking in the Producers' Lab - a five-and-a-half month, full-time program that offers numerous opportunities for producers to advance their skills. With only five producers accepted into the lab this year, this opportunity is an amazing feat!

Sports Journalism graduate, Jessica Ng, has returned to Toronto as a reporter for CBC News. After living and working in Saskatchewan for many years, she is excited to be back and report for the city she holds close to her heart. That's All Folks! Broadcasting Alumus Eric Bauza is The New Voice of Some Classic Looney Tunes Characters
“A lot of people kind of grow out of cartoons as they get older, since it’s something just to pass the time as a kid, but some never grow out of them,” says Eric Bauza. He’d know best, considering he’s now the man behind some of the most famous cartoon characters ever. Eric, a Broadcasting - Radio, Television, Film and Digital Media graduate, has become a prolific voice actor and was recently named as the new voice of Looney Tunes characters Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Marvin the Martian, Tweety Bird and others.

Film Project Turned Feature Film: “Don’t Click” by Advanced Television and Film - Script to Screen Grad, G-Hey Kim
The horror genre is filled with thrilling films that are sure to keep you on your toes. G-Hey Kim, a 2017 graduate of the Advanced Television and Film – Script to Screen program, has done an impressive job contributing to the genre with her film, Don’t Click.

Graphic Design Student's Work Selected by Collective Arts Brewing
Graphic Design student Rafael Bertoldo submitted a design he created , which was inspired by a project he did within his program, to Collective Arts Brewing. As part of an art series titled Amplified Voices, the brewing company selected several designs that would appear on their cans, and Rafael's design was selected amongst others from around the world!

Broadcasting Students Collaborate with Two UK Universities for Project: "A Walk Together"
As part of a major project in the Broadcasting – Radio, Television, Film & Digital Media program, students collaborated with the University of the West of Scotland and the University of Portsmouth, to create a video series that involved students filming themselves on a walk while discussing various topics of interest, whether that be something historical, cultural, or in nature. What resulted is a fascinating look at the stories that each student chose to tell about their chosen setting.

Grad Profile: Interactive Media Management's Kai Ajayi
Kai Ajayi is a 2019 graduate of the Interactive Media Management (IMMT) program and has recently acquired a role at a video games PR agency. His journey in this field is quite unique - he has a background in forensic psychology, started his own production company, and has even dabbled in freelance photography! The 2020 Ontario Community Newspaper Awards will be presented at a virtual ceremony on April 23. Finalists were announced in February and our Journalism students had a great showing. Congratulations to the Centennial nominees and to everyone who has had a hand in their success.

Graphic Design Student Raquel Scott Creates Anti-Racism Poster for Michael Garron Hospital
After Lisa Rebnord, Program Coordinator of the Graphic Design program, was approached by Michael Garron Hospital regarding the possibility of having a student create an anti-racism poster for their hospital, she reached out to several of her students and Raquel Scott responded back, excited to participate!

Journalism Student, Akash Sidhu, Fills Bus with Food Donations for Mississauga Food Bank
Contemporary Journalism student, Akash Sidhu, has a tradition of trying to give back to his community every year on his birthday. Despite being in the midst of a pandemic, Akash found a way to safely continue this tradition by loading a bus full of food to give to a Mississauga food bank, Seva Food Bank.

Script to Screen Student, Jeca Martinez, Creates Animated Short Film, “The Potato Apple”
Jeca Martinez is a student in the Advanced Television and Film – Script to Screen program. For a project in her Directing class, she created an animated short-film called, The Potato Apple.

Communications - Professional Writing Grad, Shannon Kularathna, Lands at Google
Shannon Kularathna, a 2018 graduate of the Communications – Professional Writing program, has recently accepted a technical writing role at Google! With a background in mechanical engineering, he made his way to Centennial and decided to pursue professional writing, which he says helped him to broaden his capabilities. Journalism Student Morgan Lightle Gets Published in the National Post
Contemporary Journalism student Morgan Lightle wrote an article titled, 2020, the year you want to forget? Archivists say not so fast. When he received the news that it was going to be published in the National Post, he was completely surprised! Life During COVID - A Photo Project
This photojournalism assignment for first-year Photography students was born out of necessity. With COVID restrictions in place worldwide, instructor Tobi Asmoucha needed to pivot. They turned their lenses to the biggest story of a generation and captured Life During COVID. The stunning results were recognized by Canada COVID Portrait, a nonprofit dedicated to documenting the lives of Canadians during the global pandemic. A selection of the students' images were featured on the project's Instagram page.

Faculty Profile: Dr. Chitra Anand
Dr. Chitra Anand has recently joined Centennial as an instructor in the Honours Bachelor of Public Relations Management program. She has over 20 years experience in the technology industry, which has included working with large corporations like Microsoft Canada and TELUS. Chitra has presented several talks where she discusses the spirit of entrepreneurship within organizations, and has written a book titled The Greenhouse Approach, which is now a main source of reading for the Forbes School of Business MBA program.

Music Program Coordinator Jesse Feyen Creating New Music Under the Name Ancient Relic
Jesse Feyen, Instructor and Program Coordinator of the Music Industry Arts and Performance program, has recently released a new single titled Live Another Day. Under the band name Ancient Relic, Jesse is excited to work on his passion and release even more music in the coming months. The Donny Awards Return This April
For the first time ever, this annual celebration of the work of our students will be held completely online.
Submissions are being accepted now for all categories including: short films, documentaries, scripts, commercials, podcasts, photography projects, Journal episodes, and any other projects created for the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 academic years.
For this year's awards we are also accepting individual and group projects made from April to August 2020 that were produced by Story Arts Centre students and were not part of a class assignment. These could include “passion projects” like a new podcast or short film or other creative work that might have been completed during the summer months.
Submissions will be accepted until March 21, 2021.

Dance Program Finds innovative Way to Bring Distance Learners Into the Classroom
One of main concerns Dance Program Coordinator, Celestine Eagle, had with students attending the program online from all over the world, was having them feel connected and part of the group. Was there a way to bring them into the studio? Turns out there was!
