"Adjei is well-prepared to be a catalyst for change in the modeling industry. She grew up travelling the world with her father, a Ghanaian diplomat, who inspired her initial desires to study law, work with the United Nations, and affect change on a policy level. Prior to becoming a full-fledged model, she earned her degree in political science and African-American studies with a business minor at Virginia Commonwealth University. She was applying to law schools when she received an opportunity to join the pageant world, which she took by the reigns, going on to land the title of Miss Maryland USA in 2015."
- Leadership Council, Black Beauty Roster -
To find a solution on increasing diversity in beauty teams, Mame Adjei teamed up with co-founders of Bonnti App, Maude Okrah and Simone Tetteh, then created the Black Beauty Roster, an initiative set out to be a talent discovery tool focused on amplifying the work of Black beauty professionals through education, mentorship, and advocacy. The platform is kicked off its launch by hosting its first digital summit February 28th 2021, the last day of Black History Month, with established industry professionals such as Gabrielle Union, Larry Sims, and Sir John as guest speakers.
"Nuit Noire is an arts collective comprised chiefly of women from the African diaspora founded to provide a space and community for those in the diaspora that lack a place to call their own in the LA metropolitan area. Our mission is simply to highlight and showcase the various cultural components of the diaspora through Art, Music, and Culture."
VOC is an initiative that Mame Adjei began out of the want and need to provide a safe space for women to be able to share their stories of triumph over their obstacles. She has created a community and podcast out this desire, helping women to open up and share their truths, to get closer to fulfilling their own purpose. It is a movement that celebrates the tenacity of women, healing through sharing + storytelling.
