Loom and frame How to put your weaving together

Well if your reading this it’s because you have purchased one of my loom and frames. Thank you!

Let get started.

When you open your kit be sure all the parts are there, if for some reason something is missing or you are unsure let me know as soon as possible.

All the pieces of the loom and frame

You will have a topper, that’s the decorative piece that goes on the top, a bottom piece, a hanger, 4 spacers and 4 Chicago screws of and of course the loom.

Compleate kit

If you purchased this as a kit you will also have some yarn , and two weaving needles.

Start with your warp thread

You will start out picking your warp, in the photo it’s the white yarn. If you purchased a kit I will have included this yarn but if you don’t like it feel free to use anything you might have but be careful not to use anything to thick.

Make a slip knot and place it around the first skinny tooth. I’m left handed so I start on the right but it makes no difference.

Pull it closed and swing the tail to the back out of your way. I recommend leaving the tail Incase you need to undo it later

Bring your warp to the bottom and start wrapping it around the teeth. Only one strand per opening. If you are a seasoned weaver you will most likely just do it but if your new to this you might want to wrap two per opening, don’t do that ok.

Your doing great!

When you get to the end you will create a slip knot just like in the beginning, wrap it over the last skinny tooth and pull it closed. You may have to try this a few times. I often do. Maybe you can figure another way that works for you, great if you can.

Warp all done notice one warp per opening

The trick is to have the warp tight but not so tight you may brake it as you weave. It can be a learning curve and I don’t know how to explain this other than not so loose it sags but not so tight you can play it like a guitar .

I’m not teaching you how to weave here but I do want you to understand the placement of the rows. There is a lip, you want the first and last rows between those lips not on top. You also want them snug. In the beginning it may move a bit you must just keep lining it up. At the end it can get tight, that’s ok because you don’t want anything shifting when your done. Just go slow don’t rush it and all will be good.

Ok so now you have compleated your weaving. Give yourself a pat on the back, you are awesome!

Let’s compleate your project by adding the top and bottom plate.

Spacers and Chicago screws

We will start with the bottom plate because it’s smaller and easier to handle. You will place the plain part of the screw into one of the holes, then the spacer on the back of the plate. Some people do one at a time others will do two. What works for you is right.

Next you will place the screw into the hole on the loom. The spacer is used to keep the plate from rubbing on the warps and to keep it level.

Once it’s in place turn it to the back

Don’t panic the screw will not poke all the way to the back, this is the way it’s supposed to be.

Next attach the bottom of the screw and just tighten by hand. Do not use a screw drive just yet.

The top section gets a hanger

So let’s see on the top you have the front plate, the spacer, the loom, and now the hanger. Yep that’s right. Just as on the bottom you place the back part of the screw into the top and hand tighten. Make sure your hanger is level

The back with everything in place

Your plates will cover the teeth so they are not visible from the front

Before you tighten with a screwdriver you should be able to shift things around to your liking

I turn it over make sure everything looks good, if so use a screw driver and tight it. Do not over tighten, this is wood and to much force can cause damage.

Well look at this, you just compleated your very own piece of art. Hang it on your wall or gift it then make more. So much fun!

Well I hope you enjoyed creating your wall weaving, please share on my Facebook page. I can be found at

BDR Creative Studios

I hope you will share what you have done on my page I really want to see your work. Also you can message me if you have any questions. I will do my best to walk you through it

The reason I decided to do directions on line like this is because I wanted to show step by step instructions and this way it helps keep the costs down. If I had to print this I would have to pass the cost on and you really don’t want to pay for more. Also with the feedback I get from you I can easily change or add anything so others can benefit.

I am forever adding new themes and ideas to these. If you have something in mind you would like me to make again yell at me on the Facebook page. If you are creating this for a gift or even gifting a kit and you want the bottom plate to have a verse, a quote a message as long as it fits within the space and you don’t care what font I use Im happy to create that for you. If it involves artwork or a special size and shape I will have to charge extra.

Thank you.

Happy weaving.
