NGI (Nehemiah Global Initiative) is a non-profit organization for education and mission work. It is being run by the staff of NGI and many other volunteers to serve the students/children of North Korean refugees.
For students who don't have much experience learning English, NGI provides an English school program which is consistent all year round. (Spring/Fall Semester, Winter session, Summer session, English Club, and Kids English club). In order to provide for these classes, we are in need of support from professional English teachers and volunteers.
Currently, many volunteers are helping NGI with the ministry, in terms of; 'English Translations, Part-time class teachings, and becoming mentors for One on One tutoring/mentoring programs.
Among these volunteers, we'd like to introduce and share the stories of three English volunteers; Volunteer Jae hoon, H, and Eunju

“Ever since I was young, I have been interested in North Korean and Chinese politics, while share the gospel in these countries. After I learned about NGI through Kenneth Bae, I had been able to attend Nehemiah Prayer gatherings a few times in the past. Considering I lived in America most of my life, English has been my native language. Therefore, I think i was called to this organization, using my abilities to help North Korean students in South Korea.
I recently started teaching English as a volunteer. Although I don't have any experience in teaching English, it has been a lot of fun! For me, the ultimate goal is to introduce Jesus Christ to the students, so volunteering for North Korean refugees is very meaningful.

Hello, I am a small but diligent follower of Christ.
I had lived in the US for 9 years majoring in the Old Testament, and began doing ministry. During that time, I experienced the livingness of God's words and the blessings of sharing the good news. In 2016, God led me to South Korea when I had thought of taking a break from the ministry. Without any plans, I came to Korea and had prepared to go to a Korean Pharmacy school for about 3 years. However, I was not able to do so. After the 3 years, I decided I would use my time to share God's word with others. That's when I leaned and stumbled across NGI on the internet.
For around 2 years, the times I spent volunteering for NGI have been a blessing to me, spreading the word of God within the Gospel of John and Genesis. Now, with the Lord's perfect guidance, I started my first semester of pharmacy school in Massachusetts. I am doing what I am purposed to do in my everyday life, hoping for the day when we may convey the words of our living God to those who have not heard.
I hope that people will be holy with the words of the Lord, and I also look forward to the day when countless people who know the Lord will wake up. To this end, I gave God the five loaves and two fish that I could offer. It was to share the word of the Lord with our beloved North Korean refugees. It was about the fullness of the heat which recognized Jehovah like water covered the sea.

The first time I heard about NGI was of last year. I had met Hye-Jin, alumni from the graduate school of Theology. She told me that she had been volunteering for NGI. I remembered the times we spent together praying for North Korea. Eventually, it made me decide that I should join her as well.
However, at the time, I was already doing ministry at a church and was unable to take out time for other projects. Later in 2021, when I had asked in taking time off from the ministry, I felt as though the Lord was guiding me and in support of this decision. That's when I joined NGI as a volunteer through Hye-Jin.
Through NGI, I came to meet a sister from North Korea and began helping her with her TOEIC study. Even though I don't have much experience in TOEIC, I felt that God had always provided me with various teaching materials to use when needed. While learning about TOEIC and meditating on Bible verses, it seems that I was beginning to understand and love this sister more and more in the heart of God. I pray and look forward to what God will do through this precious soul I had met through NGI, and the organization as a whole.
