Seasonal Task? Ladder Safety Tips to Remember

Cleaning out your gutters? Getting ready to hang holiday lights? Fall is the season you seem to pull your ladder out the most. We have some quick tips on how to handle a ladder properly & safely!

  • Inspect every ladder before use. Rungs should be secure and free of dirt or paint buildup.
  • If you are using an extension or straight ladder, make sure the tops of both rails make contact with the wall & that the legs are placed firmly on the floor (or ground).
  • With an extension or straight ladder, the rule of thumb is 1 foot from the wall for every 3 feet of ladder height.
  • For better balance, keep hips between the rails on the ladder.
  • Non-slip or rubber-soled shoes are a must!
  • Do not climb a wet ladder.
  • If you are getting something off a shelf, best practice is to have someone with you to spot you and grab the item from you before climbing down.

Recipe of the Month

Beer Brat Bites
Easy appetizer for game day!

Ingredients: 1 package of Bratwurst Sausages, 12 oz bottle of beer, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 tbsp of Dijon mustard, 1 tbsp of parsley, 2 teaspoons of cornstarch.

  • Cook brats until completely done.
  • Make the sauce while brats cook. Place the brown sugar & beer in pot over med-high heat. Bring to a boil. Once boiled, lower the temperature & simmer for about 10 minutes or until mixture is reduced and thickened.
  • Whisk in mustard until smooth.
  • Whisk cornstarch & 1 tablespoon of cold water together. Pour into beer mixture. Bring mixture back to a boil for a minute, stirring constantly. You want the sauce to be thick.
  • Slice brats into 1 inch pieces and add them to the pot with the sauce. Toss brats to evenly coat.
  • Sprinkle with parsley & Serve!
