Spring 2021
Spring is always an exciting time of year at the School of Communications, Media, Arts and Design. It's the time of year where we get to say farewell to our exceptional graduates as they continue their journey and celebrate our outstanding students and their incredible achievements. After a hiatus last year due to the pandemic, I was delighted to host our annual Dean's Award Ceremony once again. The virtual ceremony saw more than 250 people log in to celebrate our students' achievements with us.
I say this often. Our outstanding students and dedicated faculty and staff always amaze me. There are so many incredible stories that we have featured in Storyteller this year, and seeing what we accomplished during this pandemic makes me wonder about what we will achieve in the years ahead. We will take the best of the virtual learning experience to improve the student experience further. This Fall '21, our school will offer 11 HyFlex courses, seven of which are from the Arts Management program. We will not be going back to pre-pandemic limited teaching and learning methodologies. Our school will lead in innovative learning.
This edition includes stories such as Fine Arts faculty member Neville Clarke's work being displayed at the ROM, our Children's Media students working with Scholastic Canada to create an original animation, and Jessica Lord, a 2017 Dance Performance grad, who has starred in two television series. You can also read about the Canada History Fund Grant that will allow us to work with the Woodland Cultural Centre to develop a series of educational resources in our ongoing Indigenization work, our Centennial College Press expanding and publishing its first novel by one of our faculty members, student podcasts and businesses, faculty accomplishments and more.
The past year has been full of ups and downs; but it has been a time of learning, reflection and growth for us as a school. We look forward to sharing more in the future. I hope you enjoy this edition of Storyteller as much as I do.
