The Fetal and Infant Mortality Review program studies fetal and infant deaths in our community to assess, plan, improve and monitor the service systems and broad community resources that support and promote health and well-being of women, infants and families in order to reduce the infant mortality rate. FIMR generates recommendations from case reviews aimed at increasing the number of infants who celebrate their first birthday.
Through data abstraction, home interviews and case reviews from the combined efforts of the Case Review Team (CRT) and the Community Action Team (CAT) of recent fetal and infant deaths occurring in the community TFIMR works to identify trends and explore ways to reduce fetal and infant mortality with a goal of positive birth outcomes for moms and families.
The TFIMR team transitioned to a new comprehensive database and developed a fillable abstraction tool. By utilizing the National Fatality Review Case Reporting System, this allows our FIMR to enter extensive case data and analyze comparable data with other FIMR programs across the US and collaborate at the national level.
