Norwood League Match Report

Norwood’s stretch of consecutive loses has continued after a disappointing 46 point loss against Glenelg at ACH Group Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

After a tight tussle with the Redlegs in the opening half, the Bays broke the game open with a six goal third quarter to lead by 26 points heading into the final term. Liam McBean was instrumental in third term booting three of his four goals to break the game open for Glenelg.

The performance highlighted the massive improvement by Glenelg and its real opportunity to go deep in September. The Bays made a fast and accurate start with the first of the contest courtesy of Bradley Close who was able to get around the back and soccer in the Bays first.

Cameron Taheny got Norwood on the board three minutes later, however, in what was a rather wet and scrappy affair Tom Schott was able to find a response on the stroke of quarter time.

Norwood came out of the blocks early kicking back to back goals through Taheny and Anthony Wilson, however, couldn’t hold the lead on the back of some brilliant clearance work from Glenelg.

Glenelg piled on three in a row before Taheny booted his third of the match to give Norwood a red-hot chance in the second half. The Legs burst out of the blocks in the third quarter with Cole Gerloff goaling inside 30 seconds to signal its intent.

Goals to Mathew Panos, from a turnover, and Cameron Taheny's, fourth of the day, had the Legs within one point and with the momentum, but when McBean found his radar booting two goals as well as Luke Reynolds and Close, the Bays had pushed the margin to 26 points.

Close, Reynolds and Darcy Bailey continued to kick accurately in the last quarter with a goal each as the sting went out of the contest.

The travelling support was left disappointed as Norwood were held to only one goal in the final term courtesy of Anthony Wilson. The Redlegs will look to respond on Saturday when they face the Panthers in yet another crucial clash at the Parade from 2:10pm.
