As virtual reality continues to grow and expand a new MMORPG by the name of Terra Delta has become the next greatest addiction in the gaming world. Many are extremely excited about the realistic aspect of physical feeling using brain wave technology. This article is going to explain exactly how this works with an exclusive interview with the neural scientist turned game developer Isaac Rubio.
When talking with Mr. Rubio we got to ask questions about his turn to game development and why that choice was made so far into his scientific career. These are some of the questions we posed and his answers to said questions.
Q 1. Why did you change your mind and decide to go from an extremely successful neural scientific career to game development?
A 1. When discussing game development we have to delve into the mind of the player. In a sense neural scientology is already present within the genre. I have seen many virtual reality games strive to bring a person to another world from the safety of their own homes and bring the joy of being in a video game environment. Using the technology I developed players will don a single headset, this headset is able to control their brain waves and manipulate them to simulate touch, smell, pain, and fatigue according to what is happening in the game.
Q 2. Would you mind telling us how the headset operates and how exactly it will give this real life experience to the players participating in Terra Delta?
A 2. Certainly, the way this cerebral headset works is multiple detection points that are in the helmet; it can be adjusted but should be snug so as to work with neural pathways correctly. When put on correctly the user of the headset no longer needs to move and can be sitting or laying down while still able to act and move within the world of Terra Delta. The way that this works is the headset will send minor electrical shocks to the brain, these are completely harmless and entirely unfelt by the body. They are only felt enough to convey the feelings that our brain would normally create. The same way that the electrical pathways in the body relate to the brain to tell us that we are feeling something, smelling something, or tasting something will be translated from the headset to the brain through careful examination of how these electrical pathways are created and sent without the need of traveling through the body. This ensures that someone can run, swim, jump, and live without any movement of the real body. It is recommended that the headset not be worn the entire day as the human body cannot be sustained on virtual food and feeling full from food in game, the real human body still needs nourishment but I am certain our friends at the teleportation center or the supplement center will be able to compact nutrients into a single pill but that's enough about that, not my study.
Q 3. Why did you decide to keep the feeling of pain receptors and other such feelings like bodily needs as normal instead of using this power to turn those off?
A 3. My team and I began to think about this sort of thing, we could ensure that no one ever feels pain again while in Terra Delta or any basic human need but for the most part we wanted to push reality to its absolute limits. We wanted to ensure that players would feel truly alive within these worlds and as such there had to be the reality that we know in there. If we simply took away the idea of pain it wouldn’t be as close to real life and would be a constant reminder that one is in a video game and not another world that they have essentially been teleported to. Especially with the implementation of magic and heavy weaponry it was decided it would be best to feel the heat and burn of a pyromancer launching comets of pure fire at someone. The chill and freeze of an ice mage's blizzard attacks and so on and so forth.
We once again thank Mr. Isaac Rubio for the time given for the interview so we could learn more about this amazing technology bringing a new world and life to millions currently. Bringing new life indeed especially to a one Christie Mistifer who is living a new life all because of Terra Delta.
When Christie was a young girl she was struck by a drunk driver while playing in her neighborhood, despite being so young and small she was saved and able to continue living. Though a cost was paid as she was unable to walk again, paralyzed from the waist down and bound to bed or wheelchair assumedly for the rest of her life. Not wanting to go through with mechanical leg surgery she was content with living the rest of her life as she was. That is where Terra Delta came in with Christie being one of the early adopters of the game she found that the electrical neuron technology allowed her to regain her legs through the game. Because no electrical messages need to go from the legs to the brain and are instead directly sent to the brain Christie has learned to walk again within the world of Terra Delta. She described it as an overwhelming sense of freedom and life as she is unable to stop herself from running, jumping, and walking everywhere despite the many faster transportation methods within the game.
While she still needs to get out of the game every once in a while to eat and do other basic needs it is clear she has chosen to truly make this her second life and home. Spending nearly all day and night within this world with her Ice Mage character “Zon” who has been freezing most of her opponents in their tracks.
In addition to that this once pitied and worried for paraplegic now has become a respected and famed celebrity amongst other players. She is reported to be extremely kind and fun to play with as her compassion and ability to bring joy seems to have no bounds. Now with this new life in her hands Christie is working hard to live again and thanks Isaac Rubio for his contribution to giving her back long forgotten legs. All thanks to the power of virtual reality Christie and many others who have lost limbs or have trouble moving are able to live within their prime all in the world of Terra Delta.
The only question to pose now is when will there be a time where one can be transported entirely to a video game world to truly and completely live within the world of ones and zeros.
