Imperialism is the process initiated by a dominant country aiming to impose its ideas, agenda, and interests on another country considered less dominant.

Example 1: The United States taking over Hawaii. On January 17, 1893 Hawaii’s monarchy was taken over when a group of businessmen and sugar planters forced Queen Liliuokalani to abdicate. Two years later Hawaii was admitted as the 50th state.

Example 2: France taking over Algeria. In 1827, France issued a 3 year blockade of Algiers as a result of the "fly whisk incident." Then France attacked Algeria and took control.

Example 3: Britain taking over Indian. India was considered a strong nation when the British attacked, but they had a weak navy.

Example 4: France taking over Vietnam. France came over and took over Vietnam and introduced an education system and Christianity.
