MOON AND STARS TALKS

You have to think big to be big. - Claude M. Bristol

Introduction

This is the story of Tara, a typical sixteen-year-old girl, who begins to enjoy philosophical discussions and debates.

Summary

Her parents got divorced when she was two which then led Tara’s mother to spend her weekends as a maid to financially support her. After awhile, her mother began to casually date a multimillionaire named Mark and become his secretary. They started a double life, one in New Jersey and the other in Queens in which every weekend her mother and her spent romantic and platonic quality time over the years. Although Mark is a down to earth guy, Tara is the one who is learning and really questioning fear, the universe, and societal ills.

Analysis

- Tara is a native New Yorker, who is proud of them as one of the pioneer

- She had a sudden disgrace toward the idea of being like her parents yet also had pride in her heritage.

She saw the problems in society and with acknowledgement of them knew that she could not fix them very well because she saw herself as being smaller than life itself.

- Throughout the great New York skyscrapers, she saw herself as being small in comparison to it and wanted to be able to make a difference no matter how small it was.

We tell stories as a tactic, persuasion, or to feel. The power stories have are grand and are something that can inspire or destroy communities. The author explained her understanding of a fear she had: judgement from her friends, the universe, and society. The lesson is to think deeper and try to live and experience new things. The purpose is to inspire. She wanted a new way of fun and she found it through philosophy. I liked how she wanted to share her interest with her friends because it made her happy. This should be read as a purpose one could find or a lesson to learn.

THE ROAD HOME

Be the reason someone smiles. Be the reason someone feels loved and believes in the goodness in people.- Roy T. Bennett

Summary

The road home is a collection of questions and thoughts about romantic and platonic love, life lessons, and personal connections.

Analysis

- Never say your kids don’t do something because they will do it. Tell and explain to them what is the downside of it little by little.

- The story appealed mainly to pathos as it showed the greater kindness that as humans we can all share with each other. By having a former alcoholic he is now subject to pity from the kinder people he meets with every day.

- He was an addict to alcohol and now recovering from this in a clean and healthier new life to make sure he never again becomes victim to the devil's drink.

- From the mistake of not listening to his father he repeated the mistake his father forewarned him about and became an alcoholic like his grandfather is said to have been before.

The love one has for others could drive them to live a life to feel happy about. Getting to connect on a deeper level creates a sense of belonging, comfort, and importance within. The love the guy (Dave Issay) had for his grandparents is the same one he wants his nephew to develop for others as he learns about them in his own life. Human connection is vital for survival

You should read this!

Stories are to show others experiences or to create and inspire. In this case, it's to inspire the nephew to learn how to show love the same way he did and to create a learning moment. Writers write to; feel, inspire, love, think, and create because connection holds power and could create inner happiness to others and to yourself. Humans need to be able to feel emotional and spiritual connections because without it people would feel unimportant or incapable of love. The lesson and purpose is to love others, inspire others, and to be open. I liked how inspiring it was to open up to others you may not even know because you could learn a lot, this story acts as a lesson to experiment with.
