WINTER CONCERT Lynbrook's music deparment showcases talent

The performers sit silent, waiting for their conductor as the audience waits in anticipation. All of a sudden, they run their feet on the ground, creating a drumroll. Michael Pakaluk, the music teacher, walks in, suave and confident, ready to conduct the musicians in a Christmas themed song. The orchestra raises their instruments and begins to play.

Each note has been perfected, rehearsed thousands of times, in anticipation for this moment. Soon, the choir and band will join in the music department’s grand finale for the semester, the Winter Concert.

Additionally, this year’s Winter Concert, conducted on Dec. 6 and 7, featured the String Orchestra, Capriccio Acapella Club, and Symphonic Band. The music department played an assortment of Christmas music, ranging from Jingle Bells to Hallelujah.

The second night of the Winter Concert started off with the choir, as they entered the auditorium while singing and surrounded the audience. The singers circled audience, each of them holding a candle in their hand creating an unique and angelic atmosphere in the auditorium. Just after, the conductor presented a solo sung by senior Sarvesh Kalwit.

The orchestras and choirs performed before arriving to the next big event of the night, the men’s choir performance.

During the performance, senior Nathan Lee dressed up as the Grinch, the famous anti-Christmas character, and pranced around the auditorium while the choir performed.

The Winter Concert was an excellent showcase for Lynbrook’s music department. Featuring each section of the music department, and playing a wide and difficult range of music, the performers perfectly conveyed the Christmas spirit while sharing their musical talent for audiences to enjoy.
