Track teams fall to Rockford By Grace Ostric

WHAT HAPPENED: The girls and boys track and field teams lost to Rockford 99-38 and 102-35.

RIGHT: Freshman Stellamia Artes passes the baton to senior Carli Broodie in the 4-by-4 relay.

KEY EVENTS: Senior Brendan Vander Meer set the discus school record with a mark of 158' 8".

"This is my first year doing track but I can tell Brendan is in his own world," senior teammate Breven Portenga said. "He takes charge, knows what he wants and is very business minded."

Other key winnings were from senior Avery Keefe at high jump event with a mark of 4’ 10”. Freshman Seth Morder won the 1600-meter dash with a time of 4 minutes, 43.35 seconds.

THEY SAID IT: "I think we had an off meet, like we dropped the baton twice in the relays." Portenga said. "We almost beat East Kentwood, which are one of the top in the state, so we just didn't have a great performance."

WHAT THIS MEANS: Both the teams overall record is now 0-2. Boys and girls will be home against Hudsonville on Wednesday, April 21.
