“Our company has a very strong theme and message throughout it and that’s female representation, LGBTQ+ representation, and representation of minorities in general, people that don’t have a voice and we want to give them a voice,” said ONYX Films LLC founder and executive producer Jordan Pfeifer.
ONYX Films LLC is a female-led horror film studio established last year in 2019. The studio is dedicated to sharing stories inspired by the female experience, specifically the dark side of womanhood.
From a young age, Pfeifer loved watching movies with her family, stating that her parents gave her their love of film. “I’ve always been fascinated with movies and how they cause people to feel so deeply and intensely.”
Her vision for the future of the studio is to gain popularity in order to collect revenue that will go towards her crew members, “Most of our members are students but a lot of them are graduates doing freelance.”
Currently, Pfeifer has produced two short horror films. The first of which, "Necromantic," was released April 14, 2020.
“The first film that we made through ONYX is called Necromantic, that was my junior thesis film. Necromantic is about a teenage witch in high school with a crush on another pretty girl. She creates a love potion to try and entice her lover but that potion ends up being incorrectly made. She ends up killing her lover and reviving her which also ends up going wrong leading her to take intense measures to gain her love.”
Pfeifer’s second film, titled "Veins," has just released a few days ago on September 18, 2020.
“Veins is our second film we just did and it’s about the sacrifices that we must make when we go through womanhood. It features a girl who, in her culture, in order to continue the fertility of her family, the eldest daughter has to perform a ritual with her period blood every month where she must water plants with her blood. If she does it incorrectly, the plant will harm her from the inside out.”
Pfeifer has a lot more planned for the future. She teased the plot of her upcoming film, titled "A Boat, Beneath a Moonlit Sky," stating, “our next film is a Halloween film and it’s about a girl who gets her innocence taken away from her too soon.”
