Cold Process Soap Ingredients we use to formulate our soap

We believe natural soap is essential to a healthy skincare routine. The art of creating cold process soap allows us to customize each bar down to the last ingredient. Cold process soap making is ideal for preserving the benefits of plant-derived oils and butters, when compared to the melt and pour method.

Most of our soaps contain the same common core ingredients (our secret formula if you will). This page will give you a better idea of what goes into most of our handmade soaps.

Shea Butter

Shea butter is used in most of our soaps. It makes skin feel moisturized and smooth. The butter is cold pressed from the seeds of the karite tree and refined for a neutral smell and color. Shea has a softer texture than cocoa and mango butter, but slightly firmer than avocado butter. It contributes to bar hardness and conditioning properties.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is one of the most popular oils used in soap making. It offers a unique blend of cleansing, firming, and skin loving properties to a bar of soap. Coconut oil is harvested from the seeds of the coconut tree and is primarily cultivated from Southeast Asia and the Philippines. It's made up of various fatty acids, lauric and myristic saturated acids. The unique fatty acid composition of coconut oil gives it fantastic cleansing properties.

Coconut oil is a super cleansing addition that produces big, copious bubbles. It's so good at cleansing, that it can potentially strip the skin of moisture - which is why it's paired with other ingredients - our soaps made with an ideal balance of cleaning & moisturizing ingredients.

Palm Oil

Palm oil adds a unique feeling to cold process soap. It helps harden the bar and creates lather when paired with coconut oil.

We only purchase our palm oil from vendors who are members of the Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). The RSPO was founded in 2005 to create a system for certifying sustainable grown palm oil, and to create guidelines for membership for certified growers. These guidelines cover more than just environmental stewardship; members must also report on working conditions, wages, and foster local discussions and input on their impact to the local/native land. This ensures that certified palm oil is produced under legal, socially and environmentally responsible management. The World Wildlife Foundation has recognized and praised the RSPO for providing "assurance that valuable tropical forests have not been cleared, and social safeguards have been met during the oils production".

Sunflower Oil

Sunflower oil's been a great addition to our soap! It's packed with essential fatty acids and vitamin E, so it feels moisturizing on the skin. It also helps create a bit of hardness and creamy lather to the bar.

Olive Oil

Olive oil is a staple soap making oil that can be found in many of our recipes. Oil oil contributes moisturizing properties to soap; and also gives the bars a gentle creamy later. It's a great option for dry or sensitive skin!
