BHS BAND There’s a place for you!

The BHS Band Program consists of 160 students spread out over three daily classes. The Wind Ensemble is our premiere performing group. Due to the rigors of the class, membership is gained by audition only. The concert band is open to any students with prior band experience. The last class is the percussion class, which focuses on the specific techniques of playing a multitude of percussion instruments.
Our goal is to provide a quality music education to each and every student. Our program offers many levels of instruction and works to meet all members at their current ability level. Regardless of your ability....we have a “Place for You!”
Our largest ensemble is The Marching Pirates! Participation in the group is a super-fun way to make friends, be with like minded people, and be a part of the high school experience!

PARENTS, your child may feel that high school band is not for them but I want to encourage you to push them to give it a try. Marching Band is great for your child! Don’t believe me.....click here how other parents feel about it.

FYI-Membership in the Marching Pirates is awarded by invitation only. Invitations are issued by the student’s current band director and based on behavior and playing ability.
The Marching Pirates are an integral component of the BHS tradition and the driving force behind the game day experience.
The Marching Pirates are a family!
The Marching Pirates is fun for parents and students!
Our band students are able to participate in sports/activities as well as band! Band students are athletes, actors, choral members, BETA members, Student Council Representatives, artists, National Honor Society members, future teachers, GICA students, and much much more.
WE WANT YOU! Forget everything you think you know about high school band! Stay in band, get your required fine art credit, and have a blast!

A Note From Mr. Birge

At Brunswick High we are aware of the limitations that covid has placed on our middle school band programs. Currently, the Jane Macon, Needwood, and Risley Middle School Bands are mandated to rehearse outside while only Glynn Middle is permitted to rehearse inside. This has resulted in many of our middle school students having a "less than desirable" middle school band experience. I want to encourage you to push your band student to try band here at Brunswick High during their freshman year. Over 95% of students who start band here in 9th grade remain in band for the duration of their high school career.
