After graduating from the University of Utah, Duff and Amy Rich got married in the summer of ‘95 and began their journey into the wonderful world of marriage and film production. They began from the ground up as Production Assistants for sweet low-budget productions such as “No More Baths” and "Luck of the Irish". Over the years, Duff worked his way up many ladders in the biz from a Grip/Electrician, to a Gaffer, a Production Supervisor, a Unit Production Manager, and a Line Producer, starting his own production company, ZIP Films, along the way.
Duff and Amy built their film production home in Utah to stay close to family and friends, but also because of the amazing, unique and diverse locations available for filming projects.
We love taking film crews into the Wasatch mountains. The majestic pine or snow-covered peaks make great backdrops for films like Gentlemen Broncos, tv shows like ABC's Blood and Oil, and even media campaigns for IHC or Questar Gas. ZIP Films has coordinated dozens of projects for small and large crews to film in our beautiful Rocky Mountain backyard (less than an hour from downtown Salt Lake City.)
Nothing is quite like the Bonneville Salt Flats when it comes to unique locations. This area is less than an hour from the SL Airport and is known for great films such as Independence Day and World's Fastest Indian. We have loved taking crews out here to film in this other-worldly spot.
For over 20 years, Duff has worked on dozens of local and national media spots and films. Features include “Napoleon Dynamite”, “Gentleman Broncos”, “127 Hours”, “Nitro Circus the Movie 3D”, “Don Verdean”, and “Independence Day: Resurgence” to name a few.
Even more often than our work on movie productions, you will find ZIP Films producing tv spots or commercials all over the country (in Utah, Nevada, Texas, California, Maryland, and Hawaii) as well as internationally (in Panama, Thailand and China.) Some other memorable productions include the Golf Channel’s “ACE Shootout”, pilots for Nickelodeon and ABC, and commercials for NuSkin, Garmin, Duracell, Young Living, IHC, Questar Gas, Purple Mattress, and Orbit Sprinklers.
Amy joined ZIP Films in 2012 and began working wherever she was needed -- as a Production Assistant, Craft Service and Catering Coordinator, Production Coordinator, Casting Coordinator, Locations Scout, Location Manager, and Production Supervisor. Duff and Amy are not shy about recruiting friends and family when necessary. Our own kids have been thrown in as extras in a pinch!
In fact, that is how ZIP Films got it’s name -- from our kids: Zoe, Ivy, and Pete. They come first in our lives, and we do everything we can to support our clients and fellow crew members so that they can put their families first as well. We are in this business because we love making movies, being creative, and solving challenging problems, but mostly we love and care about the people we get to work along side, and hope to provide them, and our clients, with a positive production experience and excellent results in which we can all be proud.
