Coming Home ECU defeats UConn during weekend of celebration

For many Pirate fans, the traditions began with a parade along Fifth Street, showcasing creative floats decorated in the "Going for the Gold" theme.

East Carolina University has more than 168,000 living alumni, many of whom came back home to celebrate their ECU memories during 2016 homecoming festivities.

Later that day, the Pirates took the field at Dowdy-Ficklen stadium against the University of Connecticut's Huskies under a cloudless fall sky.

Saturday's attendance at Dowdy-Ficklen was 41,370.

ECU's Zay Jones became second all-time in NCAA career receptions, behind only former Pirate Justin Hardy. He is also the first player to reach 100 catches this NCAA football season.
During halftime festivities, Mark Matulewicz and Rebecca Poole were crowned homecoming king and queen.

Spirit Cup winners for participation in ECU's homecoming activities were: 1st place - ECU Ambassadors, 2nd place - Alpha Delta Pi and Chi Omega, 3rd place - Alpha Omicron Pi and Sigma Tau Gamma

Chancellor Staton, far right, also acknowledged six Alumni Award winners, from left: Dr. Douglas Privette, Dr. John Bray, Henry Hinton, Maj. Gen. Frederick Padilla, Steve George Smith, and Kathy Thomas.
