What Kind of Content we Publish

Rebellious is based in Chicago, and priority will be given to articles, essays, profiles and stories about Chicago-area events. That said, we’re always looking for great content of a general interest: Some of our best columnists are from outta town. Essays and reviews are also a great way to get published if you aren’t in Chicago.

We also love: profiles of women business owners, articles about feminist issues & events, anything about topics that we – the royal we – don’t talk about enough.

Who Are We?

Rebellious Magazine for Women was founded in March 2012 by Karen Hawkins. After a brief disco nap, we relaunched in March 2016.

We are the only publication in Chicago founded and led by a mouthy black, lesbian feminist over 40.* We are diverse, inclusive and deeply committed to publishing work by women and gender non-conforming writers, particularly those who have struggled to find a home for their work in other publications.

*Unsubstantiated claim. If you find another one, please let us know so Karen can take the owner out for coffee.
