Director's Statement
Where do I begin? We wanted to make this film with less scripture than what you may have experience from our previous portfolio but yet compelling enough to illustrate the message behind “Grace” which GOD extols to us in our lives. The Gift of Grace infuses the subject of Emotional Infidelity, Marital Identity, and Forgiveness. Considering this film was shot on location in St. Louis, we wanted to change the landscape by having our main character William living in Atlanta but traveling to St. Louis which aides him to escape the bigger problems he faces at home. Meanwhile, April finds solace in being the other woman and is enamored with the idea of possibilities of a growing relationship with William. We crafted a unique way for William and April to share dual roles of antagonist/protagonist throughout the film. With the cinematography and soundtrack, we look to engage our audience in these subject matters while taking them on a decidedly hopeful and encouraging journey. We see ultimately an empowering storyline and a personal connection with our characters as they peel back the layers of guilt and shame.
The greatest learning for me in making this invigorating film was that everyone can use some grace. We wouldn’t be here without it. No matter our shortcomings or failures but because grace has been extended to us, we get another chance to get it right. So the intersection of spirituality and reality is inherent in the stories we’ve focused upon, and the message is in the medium that bridges them together to make it relatable for our culture and worth watching.
