CivicWeek is a service-learning immersion program of the Civic Education Project at Northwestern University's Center for Talent Development.

CivicWeek provides hands-on learning opportunities for students in grades 7-8 and 9-12.

Chicago becomes a classroom as students engage in meaningful service, meetings with top professionals and community leaders, and hands-on learning in a fun and supportive living-learning community.

Make a Difference

Engage in meaningful, eye-opening service each day. Projects range from serving a meal to the hungry, to running activities at a youth center, to conducting outreach for a neighborhood association.

Sort food donations and assist community members with grocery shopping at Lakeview Pantry

Prepare and serve lunch at Two Li'l Fishes for families experiencing homelessness.

Provide homework help for children at a Chicago Youth Centers after-school program.

Learn about healthy food and healthy communities by gardening with Fulton Street Flower and Vegetable Garden.

Explore Careers

Gain hands-on experience with community issues. Meet with government, business, and nonprofit leaders at the top of their fields and get behind-the-scenes access to career fields of interest. Gain rich material for college admissions essays, job and internship interviews, and future academic endeavors.

Meet with a physician at Northwestern Memorial Hospital to discuss health care from the perspective of a practicing medical professional.

Learn how lawyers advocate for immigrant children from staff at the Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights.

Visit Lawndale Christian Health Center for an introductory workshop on public health issues facing low-income communities.

Attend a workshop on immigration policy and advocacy hosted by Asian Americans Advancing Justice.

Develop Leadership

Experience City Life
