Note from our Head
Dear Oakfield families,
We very much hope you are looking forward to the Oakfield Sports Day events over next week based on the letter which went out on Thursday that included the steps we are taking to ensure people can support the action in a safe and secure way.
Sport is such a beneficial activity to both our physical and mental health and it has been a widely-held belief that the professional sport which has been able to take place during the pandemic has really suffered from the lack of fan attendance. It is something to bind us and for us all to get behind. We trust you will be able to support your own child, but also all the Oakfield children giving their best.
For those who enjoy watching support hopefully it will be a brilliant summer of sport with the Euro 2020 knockout games, Wimbledon and the British and Irish Lions tour to come.
But even more importantly we hope everyone is able to enjoy participating in sport next week and through the rest of the summer months.

Clean Air Day
Thank you to all parents, staff and children for your enthusiasm and support towards this fantastic cause. It has been lovely to see so many children talking happily about their adventures as they walked, scooted and cycled to school. I hope that you will continue to enjoy being a pedestrian around the school, to help reduce traffic and protect the health of our children.
The children enjoyed informative discussions, videos and songs to learn about air pollution. The posters and letters created have made us really proud and is a great reflection of the awareness the children have of their environment, and how they can positively effect a change.
We have raised enough money to provide air-purifying plant for each classroom in September and will work alongside our Oakfield Eco-warriors to ensure we provide this.
Please enjoy the lovely contributions from various parts of our school, and thank you once again for your support.

YEAR 6: OAKFIELD DIPLOMA
We are sharing lots of things about the Oakfield Diploma on our social media platforms - especially Twitter and Instagram - that aren't on the newsletter. So get following us!
And Year 6 parents and carers can tag us @OakfieldPrep and use the hashtag #OakfieldDiploma2021 to show how their children have been engaging with the subjects and activities which are part of the Diploma.
Today Year 6 went for a taster session at the Herne Hill Velodrome and we look forward to bringing you news and pics of this soon!
REFUGEE WEEK
Following our Y6 Assembly with Emmanuel Jal we thought we would share an article with you based on an interview between Emmanuel and Deborah Leek-Bailey, the Head of UK Schools for our holding company Education Development Trust.
YEAR 4
4PD had great fun pretending to be palaeontologists this week in Science. As part of our study on fossils, we learned how to excavate bones (or plastic dinosaur skeletons!) using similar tools to those that actual palaeontologists use!
YEAR 2
As part of Computing week, Year 2 took part in a workshop on Scratch Junior. We have been using this in our ICT lessons so the children enjoyed picking up new tricks to make their coding more fun!
Year 1
Thank you to all the Year 1 parents for providing the children with wonderful costumes for Kings and Queen dress day. The Year group enjoyed travelling back in time to when Queen Elizabeth was born. We sure have some actors in the making!
UPPER FOUNDATION
Dear Parents/Carers,
This week we have been talking a lot about the children’s transition into Year 1 and the children have discussed their feelings about this, and what they are excited or nervous about, ready for Let’s Get Started Day next week.
We have also been looking at stories from Hawaii about the god Māui, who the children were already familiar with and very excited to learn more about! We read the story How Māui Hooked the Islands and focused on finding different verbs. We looked at pictures of Hawaii and made comparisons with where we live. In Maths we have been looking at odd and even numbers and sorting numbers into these categories.
We are thrilled that so many children want to share their special items in Show and Tell and will always try to accommodate these. Please could we ask though that each child brings only one per week so that we can fit these in around our learning.
Next week, we look forward to Sports Day! Please do not forget your house t shirts and ensure that the children have white shorts, a water bottle, sun hat and sun cream on before coming into school.
Reminders:
- Monday 28th June: Let’s Get Started Day videos from new Year 1 teachers
- Tuesday 29th June: Let’s Get Started Day Teams calls with new Year 1 teachers
- Wednesday 30th June: UF Sports Day in Pre-Prep playground
With thanks,
The Upper Foundation Team

Summer Movie Making Camp
At the Sparks filmmaking holiday camps, young filmmakers learn all about movie making.
This year’s theme is ‘Mash it Up’ - the crew members will be making films that mix different filmmaking styles and conventions reinventing classic film genres.
There will be lots of technical explorations, as well as looking at how to construct interesting and creative narratives using familiar devices and turning them on their head.
We know there are tons of fantastic ideas just waiting to be let out. We can’t wait to help shape them into some incredible film projects.
