Why is being healthy important for kids?
Healthy eating is important because many kids in our generation are not very healthy. A survey showed that 74% kids in our generation (gen z) sat online as their favourite hobby whereas only 13% would spend the time reading a book and 5% said they would be exercising and 8% said they spend the time Cooking/Baking. Healthy eating is essential for a long and fulfilling life. keeping fit and eating right can make all the difference, from improving your sleep to putting you in a better mood.
I decided I would conduct my own Poll around the school yard to see what the majority are interested in doing in their spare time.
Here are the resultsts
As you can see, physical activity one by a mile! This Poll was only done in our school yard, and I am sure if our school wasn't as enthusiastic as it is about physical education the results would be very different.
Personal HYGIENE
It is important to practice good hygiene. This means, having showers regularly, brushing your hair, changing your underwear, washing your hands and brushing your teeth twice a day. It is important that you follow these basic hygiene rules, in order to keep yourself from being smelly and looking scruffy.
Protein
protein is very important for our bodys. We use it in the growth of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and blood. Protein is in every cell of our body. It helps fix damaged tissues, and also in the production of enzymes, hormones, and other body chemicals.
protein can be found in many things such as:
- meat
- fish
- nuts
- beans
- cheese
- eggs
It is recommended that you have 3 servings of protein a day.
Fat
Fat gets a bad name, But it is important to have it in your diet. Our body needs fat for giving your body energy and for helping absorb vitamins A, D, E, and K, the so-called fat-soluble vitamins.
cARBS
Carbs are important because they are filled with glucose. Glucose is important because your body uses it for energy. It can use it immediately or store it for later.
What foods can carbs be found in?
- Pasta
- Sugar
- Breads
- Rice
- Oats
- And other grains
Vitamins
Vitamin A:
Above you can see some fruits and veg that are filled with vitamin A. Vitamin A is good for heart, lungs, kidneys and other organs. It is also good for your immune system and eyesight
VITamin B
Above you will see some foods packed with vitamin B. B vitamins have a direct impact on your energy levels, brain function, and cell metabolism. . As the building blocks of a healthy body, B vitamins play a vital role in maintaining good health and well-being.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is necessary for the growth, development and repair of all body tissues. It's involved in many body functions, including formation of collagen, absorption of iron, the immune system, wound healing, and the maintenance of cartilage, bones, and teeth.
Vitamin D
Pictured above are 6 sources of Vitamin D. Vitamin D is so important that your body makes it by itself, but only after skin exposure to sufficient sunlight. The only proven benefit of vitamin D is its role in helping calcium build strong bones, But that's far from the whole story, Vitamin D helps regulate the immune system and the neuromuscular system aswell!
vitamin E
Above is several foods filled with vitamin E. Including sources of vitamin E in your diet brings many benefits. As a fat-soluble nutrient, vitamin E functions mainly as an antioxidant, which means it helps protect cells from damage caused by unstable molecules called free radicals.
Vitamin k
Vitamin K is used to produce prothrombin, a protein and clotting factor that is important in blood clotting and bone metabolism. Vitamin K refers to a group of fat-soluble vitamins that play a role in regulating blood calcium levels.
Minerals
The body uses minerals to perform many different functions from building strong bones to transmitting nerve impulses. Just like vitamins, minerals help your body grow, develop, and stay healthy. Some minerals are even used to make hormones or maintain a normal heartbeat.
Water
it's important to stay hydrated by drinking fluids and eating foods that contain water, Because your body loses water through breathing, sweating, and digestion. Your body uses water in all its cells, organs, and tissues to help regulate its temperature and maintain other bodily functions.
BENEFITS of being healthy
- Weight loss.
- Reduced cancer risk.
- Strong bones and teeth.
- Better mood.
- Improved memory.
And that's just to name a few!
so, if being healthy makes you look better, feel better, sleep better and live a long and happier life, then why wouldn't you want to be healthy?
