Nurture The Next Prevent Child Abuse Tennessee is now Nurture the Next, scroll to view our 2019-2020 annual report.

Our name for the last three decades, Prevent Child Abuse Tennessee, did not convey all the work we do to strengthen families.

That is why we are now Nurture the Next.

Our new name emphasizes what we do, rather than what our work prevents.

A message from our CEO.

Our organization concluded the 2019-20 fiscal year by starting a new chapter as Nurture the Next. For nearly three decades, we have been a proud member of the national Prevent Child Abuse America organization, donning the name Prevent Child Abuse Tennessee. While our mission and our affiliation are staying the same, our new name emphasizes what we do, rather than what we prevent.

We are working with families to raise the next generation in nurturing homes, where children are valued and loved. Thank you for your support.

A global pandemic cannot slow us down! Technology is proving to be a powerful tool in our work. Check out some of our cutest virtual home visits.

While we have not been in-person with the families we serve since early spring, our work still addressed their core needs of emotional support, guidance, and connection to resources.

  • We successfully built trust and relationships virtually: 94% of families referred to us during the 4th quarter enrolled in our in-home support program, despite the program being solely virtual during this time.
  • We expanded our reach: Home visits increased by 31% during 4th quarter, compared to the same time period last year.
  • We added new ways to support parents: We piloted our new parent mentorship program, Nurture® TN, and launched a new website dedicated to parenting advice: ParentingTN.org.

Making Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion a Lived Reality for More Tennesseans.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are deeply rooted in the work of Nurture the Next. We actively work to remove barriers for the families we serve and use our values to inform our program delivery. Ensuring the work we do in communities across Tennessee helps seed the expansion of these values as a lived reality for those we serve. Building stronger families by helping parents create nurturing homes inherently addresses the consequences of social injustice and systemic racism that have torn families down and apart for generations.

How we put DEI values into action:

  • Provide in-person interpreters and translated documents in over 10 different languages.
  • Work collaboratively with organizations addressing these issues.
  • Review our programs, communication, and policies yearly to ensure they are inclusive.
  • Collect feedback from families in our programs and use it to improve quality and access to services.

Help us give families the opportunity to connect.

Throughout the year, our Family Connection events bring our families together and give them the opportunity to experience something special with each other and their children. These social connections—which lift spirits and build memories—are needed more than ever. But we can no longer make them happen without dedicated support. You can contribute to Family Connection events using our online donation portal.

We piloted a texted-based parent mentorship program.

Nurture® TN is built around moms helping other moms. We connect new moms who need support with experienced moms who have gone through our volunteer training program.

We hope you’ll share this free, confidential resource with someone who needs it. Or if you want to give support to another mom right now, we encourage you to volunteer with Nurture® TN.

Our first ever Share the Pain event.

We partnered with CrossFit Nashville to host a free CrossFit class to stand in support of survivors and victims of domestic violence across the state.

The CrossFit community in Nashville stepped up to donate and collect items for domestic violence survivors and victims as part or Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October.

We rely on tangible gifts from our community.

Businesses and individuals across the state stepped up to provide food, toys, PPE, diapers, wipes, and more to our families in need.
