The Coker University men’s and women’s track and field teams will be traveling to Boston, Massachusetts for the BU Valentine Meet on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 14 – Feb. 15). The Cobras are coming off a great weekend in Columbia, S.C. at the South Carolina Invitational, where several personal best marks and two new school records were set.
Tiffany Taylor set the Coker school record in shot put with a heave of 11.24m. Taylor broke her own record of 11.08m, which she set the week before at the Carolina Challenge on Jan. 31. Meanwhile for the men, Mahari Greene, Fred Thompson, Wilhemson Jean-Pierre, and Sage Lilly were part of a 4x400 relay team that set a new Coker record with a time of 3:17.24.
In the men’s 60m several personal bests were set, as Davion Sebree finished eighth at 7.00, Antuan Crowder ran a 7.04, and Andre Merritt finished at 7.19. For the women, Nyasia Weatherly (7.88), Syriah Lottimore (8.08), Ayana English (8.21), Shania Crosby (8.51), and Madison Groleau (8.80) all set personal bests in the 60m.
In the upcoming BU Valentine Meet, there will be 10 Cobras participating, here is the full list and which events they’ll be running in:

athletes to watch
MEN:
Tony McElveen Jr.
McElveen Jr., a senior from Florence, S.C., will be participating in the 60m and 200m this weekend for the Cobras in Boston. At the JDL College Kick-Off Classic, Tony set a new Coker record in the 60m with a time of 6.87, breaking his previous record of 6.90. McElveen Jr. placed fourth in the 60m at the Carolina Challenge on Jan. 31. This past weekend, Tony ran a 6.92 in the 60m prelims.
WOMEN:
Calene Lazare
Lazare, a sophomore from Newton, Massachusetts, is a transfer from Merrimack College. In her first meet for the Cobras, Lazare set the school record in the 60m with a time of 7.61 at the JDL College Kick-Off Classic on Dec. 7. At the Gamecock Opener on Jan. 18, Calene ran the second fastest 200m time in Coker history with a mark of 25.69. At the BU Valentine Meet, Lazare will be running in the 60m and 200m.
