SCHOOL COUNCIL ELECTIONS By 4pm last Friday, we had received one further nomination for School Council for the single Parent Member category vacancy remaining. I am therefore happy to report that Roger Schmidt is duly elected to School Council and that all positions have now been filled. On Tuesday, March 9, our new School Council will meet for the first time to elect office bearers, followed by our normal March meeting. I will keep you informed of the new office bearers in due course.
SCHOOL REVIEW The first day of our School Review was yesterday, with the Review Panel considering our data, visiting classrooms and setting the terms of reference for our two ‘fieldwork’ days to be held tomorrow (Friday, February 26) and Tuesday, March 2.
PUPIL FREE DAY Our maths consultant, Michael Ymer, is a patient man! We had him scheduled to deliver a full day of professional development for staff this time last year, but things went a little ‘south’ with Covid-19 and we were unable to fulfil this commitment. As advertised, we have a pupil free day scheduled for Friday, March 5 when Michael will hopefully return and staff will profit further from his skill and wisdom. A reminder that full day care is available from OSH Club on that day.
SCHOOL CAPTAIN BADGE PRESENTATION Our School Captains received their badges at an ‘open-air’ assembly on Monday. Thank you to the parents of each of our school captains (Charlie Hemingway, Austin Iredale, Bethany Cadusch and Jessie Xu) for attending and special thanks to Anthony Carbines, Member for Ivanhoe, for finding the time to make the presentations.
A busy week, so less from me this week. I hope you have a lovely weekend.
Kind regards,
Bill Kersing
Principal
Term 1 has been incredibly busy as we settle back into the year and try to establish our direction, routines and expectations. All classes have invested considerable time into our Fresh Start program which provides everyone opportunities to get to know each other, set up class norms, unpack behaviour and learning expectations and begin to delve into our social and emotional learning.
The Foundation-2 students have attended a Mindful Monkey incursion which focussed on unpacking our emotions and developing strategies to help regulate our emotions. All classes have been busy reconnecting with The Resilience Project wellbeing program and the GEM strategies. (Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness). We will continue to implement the Resilience Project throughout 2021.
Across the school, our students have been discussing our school values- RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, RESILIENCE, KINDNESS and identifying what they mean and what they look like around the school. 5F did a wonderful job unpacking our school values. I very much look forward to seeing these actions across the school.
Most classes have now chosen their Green Team and Junior School Council representatives. Student representatives will be announced in the coming weeks and their badges presented at an upcoming assembly. We will notify parents prior to the date, inviting you to attend the assembly.
Have a wonderful week,
Gill
