Chaplains' News

Hi School Families,

I hope you all enjoyed a well deserved break and are excited to be back for our final term of this year.

We ended last term on a high note with our Junior School Fun Day, and all the kids had an awesome time. The day included, jumping castles, activities and even an outdoor chapel. I would like to thank all our Middle and Senior School students who volunteered their time to serve Junior School kids on this day, we are very proud of their efforts and passion.

This term has started off strong and we are slowly starting to transition chapel back to normal. In the Middle and Senior School, we are still livestreaming but are now inviting one-year level per week to be there in person. This will allow us to better engage with each year level. In the Junior School we will no longer be pre-recording our chapels and will now be livestreaming the service from a different classroom each week. We are excited to see what we can do with these new changes and how we can better engage with your kids.

Although this year has been challenging and things are still not quite the same, I pray that we can cling to this beautiful promise found in Deuteronomy 31:8. “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Please continue to pray for God's leading in our school and community during these interesting times.

Blessings, The Chaplains

A Message from Dr Faull

This week one of our parents spoke highly of our lovely school and the after-school added value classes that Wahroonga has to offer.

Year Three is an exciting year because students get to choose to learn an instrument or to join in the basketball training, running club or a dance class! All of these activities occur after school and are readily accessible as extracurricular activities to students of the school.

If your child would like to join any of these activities or you would like more details please contact the School Office for this terrific opportunity.

Monday 19th October marked a significant milestone here at Wahroonga Adventist School... It was the day our first ever Year 12 cohort officially commenced!!! The occasion was celebrated with a special assembly where the students were each presented with their own Year 12 jacket! It is a special time and we wish you all the best for a great year ahead!!

The Annual School Cross Country was held on Friday, 16th October 2020 with all students in Years Prep to 11 taking part. Students ran either the 1km, 2km, 3km, 4km or 6km circuit depending on their age - the day ran very smoothly and all the students had a fun time... the reward of an ice block at the end of the race was a definite hit!

A Note From Mrs Deppeler

We have a lot to fit in our shorter term 4. There were lots of smiles and excited little people here last Wednesday and Thursday as we welcomed our new Kindergarten students during Kinder Orientation. It was nice to be able to share information with our new parents about our school facilities and programs offered at Wahroonga. During week 1, our students demonstrated resilience and determination as they completed the cross country. All our students should be extremely proud of their efforts. Week 2 has also been an eventful week as the Primary students celebrated Book Week. There were lots of interactive activities planned during the week ending in a book parade. The parade was recorded and uploaded to Seesaw so that parents could be involved.

For those who still like to complete the challenges that I have been posting on Seesaw, I will be posting a challenge into your child’s folder on a fortnightly basis this term. These challenges are not compulsory and are in addition to any work set by the class teacher. Once completed please upload and post to Mrs Deppeler's Weekly Challenge folder on your child’s class homeroom page in Seesaw.

Super Hero Challenge!

This week’s challenge requires you to share your favourite super hero and explain why they are your favourite. You can either draw a picture, write or provide a video explanation. I look forward to what you come up with. See your learning journal in Seesaw for more details.

Moving Bodies (Term 4) – Fundamental Movement Skills

As previously communicated, we are unable to run swimming this term due to COVID restrictions and the pool that we use has not yet reopened. Moving Bodies are running a Fundamental Movement Skills programs for our Prep to Year 6 classes for this term every Tuesday and Friday.

Kindy Orientation

Last week we was super excited to welcome the new Kindergarten students for 2021 to our School. There were lots of excited faces in the morning and smiles all round at the end of the day. Thank you to all the staff that were involved in making this event special for our newest members of our School.

Years 8 to 12 - Opal Cards to Expire January 2021

Transport NSW have advised us that from January onwards, a number of School Opal cards will be expiring as the physical card has reached its lifespan.

These are cards for students who will be in Years 8 to 12 in 2021, and only those Opal cards which haven’t been replaced in the last five years.

Impacted students and/or their parent/guardian will be contacted directly by Transport NSW via email or post. They will be asked to confirm their details online in order for a new School Opal card to be sent to the correct postal address in time for the new school year.

If contacted by Transport NSW, details should be submitted online by December 1, 2020 at the latest. Affected students who do not confirm their details in time will have a new School Opal card posted to the address we currently have on file.

Kanya's Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign

To anyone who I am not acquainted... Hi! I’m Kanya, I believe that all people deserve to have a happy and healthy life and I know that many people close to me and my friends have had family members or have suffered from breast cancer themselves. It is a debilitating illness that I and many others wish to abolish one day in the future.

For this reason, I have decided to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation by pushing a promise that if I reach $1000 in donations, I will shave my head. I would kindly appreciate it if you spread the word and hopefully donate some money as well. This foundation means a lot to both me and a lot of my friends/family so even one cent towards this honourable cause would mean the world! Here is the link:
