Welcome events are designed to foster student involvement and campus commitment. They celebrate first-time students' entry into higher education and welcome them to campus.
Students are able to experience ECU Transit, which provides more than 2.5 million rides each year with service both off and on campus.

New Student Convocation

All first-time students were invited to fall convocation in Minges Coliseum.

Convocation is the official welcoming ceremony for freshmen and transfer students. It marks the beginning of their collegiate journey and ushers them into the community of scholars.

As a freshman, I am sure that you are excited and anxious about the new experiences and opportunities that await you. These new experiences and opportunities lead you to manifestation of your plan for your life. Be creative in designing your life. We don't want you to have a cookie-cutter college experience. This is your life, and ECU will assist you in making it the life you imagined for yourself."

- Dr. Cecil P. Staton, ECU Chancellor

Convocation is designed to convey to students the significance of charting and navigating their educational journey and to show the university’s commitment to supporting them inside and outside the classroom. It's also a celebration of university life and the traditions of ECU.
We are thrilled to have 4,200 students join Pirate Nation. We want you to enjoy your collegiate experience in every way. But it all starts with going to class and making the most of your academic endeavors."

- Dr. Virginia D. Hardy, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs

I enjoyed listening to the Convocation speaker’s message about how early on in her career she listened to what other people told her to do but realized she didn’t like who she was becoming, so she changed to be more true to herself."

- Kimberly Morton, freshman
