JMU Comes Alive After 5! A guide to evening and weekend campus activities Thursdays - Sundays.

Mid-Fall Semester Edition. This information is sent out twice a semester with the goal of keeping you informed of some fun events happening on campus in the evenings and on the weekends; focusing on events that occur Thursdays through Sundays. Please scroll down for events that are occurring through the rest of the semester. All events have links to the event or sponsor website.

Dive-in Movie

Grab your swimsuit and towel and come to the UREC Aquatics Center for a movie in the pool! There will be a limited number of float tubes and noodles available for your viewing pleasure.

Terror lurks around every corner at the annual Halloween Haunt event at Kings Dominion!

Funny Freakin’ Friday

If you love to laugh, Funny Freakin’ Friday is the event for you! Derek Knopsnyder is joining us for a night of entertainment and he’s bringing stuffed llamas for the audience! You won’t want to miss this entertaining hour!

No Man’s Land Film Festival

No Man’s Land Film Festival is an all-female adventure film festival based out of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado that meets a need and desire to highlight and connect women in pursuit of the radical.

Belay and Climb

If you have climbed a few times before and are ready to take the next step, this is a great program for you!

Try a Kayak

This is your chance to try out whitewater kayaking in the UREC pool! No previous experience is necessary.

Learn to Climb

Learn how to climb at UREC! Our staff will teach you about the safety systems, equipment and techniques used at our indoor climbing wall.

Learn to Boulder

Bouldering is rock climbing without the hassle of harnesses and equipment. Come learn how to participate in the sport of bouldering in this informational and hands-on clinic!

Get Active - Off Campus Adventures

Massanutten Peak Hike

Be a part of reviving a JMU tradition and hike the 2.5 mile ridge to the top of Massanutten Peak above the ski area!

  • Saturday, October 19 from 12 – 6 p.m.

Mountain Biking

This mountain bike ride will be on the Narrow Back Trail, a newly renovated trail in the George Washington Forest! Beginner, intermediate and advanced riders welcome! Bike and helmet are provided by UREC Adventure (or you can bring your own).

Old Rag Hiking Trip

The Old Rag Mountain Hike in the Shenandoah National Park is one of the most popular hikes in the mid-Atlantic region. This is a challenging hike that is 8 miles long with an elevation gain of 2,500 feet.

  • Saturday, November 9 from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Caving

Join UREC Adventure and the JMU Caving Club for a trip to a wild cave. There will be no underground sidewalk or cave light show on this adventure.

Fill Your Belly

Homecoming Late Night Breakfast

Join UPB and get your spirit gear for homecoming weekend! You can expect performances from JMU student dance and acapella groups as well as a visit from Duke Dog. As always, breakfast will be served free of charge for students!

Night at the Museum Late Night Breakfast

Join UPB and Lisanby Museum for a night of mystery and mayhem as you discover the ins and outs of the Lisanby Museum while enjoying a late night breakfast snack in the Museum café.

GetDown at SunDown

Join in for the last GetDown at SunDown of the fall semester - there will be yard games, hula hoops, and CAKE!

Creative Madison Craft Nights

We have supplies like crazy, sometimes instructions, and always cookies!

  • Saturdays in the Clubhouse (Madison Union 208) from 7:30 p.m. – 11 p.m. Every Saturday when JMU is open. (Not occuring on 11/23 or 11/30)
