Finding Funding FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES FROM THE OFFICE OF RESEARCH ADMINISTRATION: JULY 2019

Highlighted Opportunities

  • UNC System Office Inter-Institutional Planning Grants, July 29 (Limited Submission): The goal of Inter-Institutional Planning Grants (IPG) is to incentivize stronger collaborative relationships within the UNC System and to increase the system’s competitiveness in attracting external funds. An IPG is a one-time award to initiate a collaborative team effort, with the expectation that the team will use the funding period to position itself to obtain external funding to support future activities related to the project. Proposals will be accepted from any collection of institutions within the 17-campus UNC System. Additional collaborative partners may come from outside the UNC System, but at least two UNC institutions must be involved in each proposal. Only UNC Institutions are eligible to receive funding under an IPG. Please complete the following form if you would like to be considered one of ECU's nominees.
  • North Carolina Biotechnology Center Translational Research Grant, Sept. 18: The Translational Research Grant program funds projects that explore potential commercial applications or initiate the early commercial development of university-held life science inventions. The technology must have the potential to solve a real-world problem as a commercial product in the life science sector.
  • National Science Foundation Advancing Informal STEM Learning, Nov. 6 (Limited Submission): The Advancing Informal STEM Learning (AISL) program seeks to advance new approaches to and evidence-based understanding of the design and development of STEM learning opportunities for the public in informal environments; provide multiple pathways for broadening access to and engagement in STEM learning experiences; advance innovative research on and assessment of STEM learning in informal environments; and engage the public of all ages in learning STEM in informal environments.
  • Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs, Deadline Varies: Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs fill research gaps by funding-high impact, high-risk and high-gain projects that other agencies may not venture to fund. While individual programs are unique in their focus, all of the programs managed by the CDMRP share the common goal of advancing paradigm-shifting research, solutions that will lead to cures or improvements in patient care, or breakthrough technologies and resources for clinical benefit. The CDMRPs strive to transform health care for service members and the American public through innovative and impactful research. There are currently more than 30 CDMRPs funding opportunities available.

What's Coming Up?

  • eTRACS Planning for October Launch: Last year, ECU contracted with InfoEd Global® for a new electronic research administration system. The eTRACS project team is preparing for a go-live date for the PD, PT and AT modules on Oct. 1, 2019. Work on FT implementation will begin in October with go-live anticipated on July 1, 2020. RAMSeS will be available for several months after eTRACS PD/PT/AT go-live to accommodate proposals already in development in RAMSeS and to provide time for transfer of active awards to the new award tracking system. REDE will provide ample opportunity for faculty and staff training prior to go-live.
  • The Office of Faculty Excellence offers sessions on various research platforms, including NVivo, Tableau, Qualtrics, SPSS, and others. Sign up for workshops through the OFE Calendar.
  • Walk-In Statistics/Research Consulting, Laupus Library, July 11, 19, 25: The research/statistics consultant from the Office for Faculty Excellence provides walk-in consulting services for ECU faculty members, staff, fellows, and graduate students on West Campus. The consultant can provide help in research design, data management, data analysis, interpretation of results, statistical software use, preparation of reports, collaborative work, survey development, and other issues related to research.
