"12 Strong" Demonstrates the brotherhood in battle By: Jake NAVARRO '20

Based on a true story “12 Strong” directed by Nicolai Fuglsig is playing in movie theaters around Westport and is perhaps one of the best war dramas that is been screened in the past 20 years.

Prior to the premier of “12 Strong,” “Zero Dark Thirty” was the last movie that was based on an attack targeted on a terrorist group. Although that movie was extremely well directed and acted, “12 Strong” was able to demonstrate the experiences the soldiers went through way better than the previous war movie.

In the film, Captain Mitch Nelson, takes his team consisting of 11 trained special force soldiers to Afghanistan where they make the first attack on the Taliban after the nine eleven attacks. The viewers are able to recognize and experience the true challenges the soldiers faced on the way. For example when the team learns that they will be fighting the terrorists on horses which is a clear disadvantage than what they had previously trained for.

Chris Hemsworth's character, Mitch, is a strong leader who is fearless and who can also be humorous. He tends to always look at the bright side of things making some of the worse situations funny. General Dostum who is played by Navid Negahban is the native who helps the soldiers fight off the Taliban. The two different character personalities clash together throughout the movie to provide humor on a touchy topic

The movie was packed with lots of action and battle scenes that kept me on the edge of my seat. Not only was the movie full of intense battling of the Americans and the Taliban, but they showed the harsh conditions that the soldiers would stay in overnight.

Going to this movie was a great experience as I was able to show up to the movie theater and purchase my ticket with ease. I also was able to purchase an inexpensive dinner before the movie and eat it in my reclining chair throughout the movie.

Ultimately if you love action movies and love learning about the American military “12 Strong” would make for a great night out. This movie is not only action packed, but it sheds bits of humor. It keeps the viewers extremely engaged throughout the movie. For a mere $12 “12 Strong is a must see.
