Carlmont Choir Cabaret Night has everyone swaying along

Avantika Swaminathan, a freshman, sings "Boats of Mine" by Anne Stratton Miller. The song was inspired by a Robert Louis Stevenson poem.

Junior Albert Hejmadi sings and plays his own song "59 Miles Per Hour" on guitar.

Colin Mastalir sings and plays "Cotton" by The Mountain Goats on guitar.

Mastalir not only sang a solo, but also sang as a part of the acapella group Fine Tuning. "I like how cabaret gives individual performers the chance to show off without being in a group," Mastalir said.

Matias Pollan sings "My Way" by Frank Sinatra in his solo act.

Pollan, a junior, said, " I practiced a lot, and it was really hard. I messed up my lyrics a couple of times during practice, but by the performance, I got it down."

Sophomore Valentina Espinosa sings and plays "Vienna" by Billy Joel on piano.

Espinosa participated in the event as a soloist and as a part of the group. She said, "I liked the community that you build from working together on the show."

During the performances, she played piano, and during the finale, she played percussion.

"Playing all of the instruments was fun, but difficult to do while I was singing," Espinosa said.

Eliott Yonts sings "Extraordinary Machine" by Fiona Apple.

Yonts, a junior, said, "I didn't participate in cabaret for the past two years, but this year I was like why not. It's just a fun way to showcase your voice, and why not do it by myself in front of a whole bunch of people. It's nerve-wracking, but I love to sing, so that makes up for it." Yonts participated in Cabaret night both as a soloist and in a group.

Katie Mannion and Colin Welter, both seniors and co-presidents of choir, sing "Somewhere" from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein.

Veronica Roseborough and Sabrina Ng, both seniors, sing "Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman while Ng plays guitar.

Goz Asai, a junior, sings "Fly Me To the Moon Mashup" arranged by Asai for voice and guitar. It featured songs by Frank Sinatra, Jason Mraz, and Israel Kamakawiwo'ole.

Asai also sang "Zombie Jamboree" by Kingston Trio with Fine Tuning and played guitar in the finale.

Free dessert and water sit outside the auditorium during Intermission for people to snack on.
