Staples had its second Wellness Activity Enrichment Day of the year on Wednesday, Nov 24 to help combat mental health issues in students. The activities lasted from 12:00 to 12:30 PM, and were set up in several locations such as the cafeteria and the field house.

"We think these events will emphasize the fact that we are all Wreckers and are sharing in the experiences this year together as one. This practice of "collective effervescence" as it has been coined, will help to make this year the best year ever for Wreckers Nation," Principal Stafford W. Thomas Jr wrote in an email to the school. "We would like to thank the Staples PTA for raising funds and donating the money to purchase the various games to make this monthly event a success and sustainable through at least January of 2022. Without their generous contributions, these days would not have been possible."

One of the most popular activities set up was the petting zoo, in partnership with farmtoheart, which attracted students of all ages to interact with animals such as rabbits, sheep and a pony.

Similar to Staples's first Wellness Day, the school served ice cream bars such as chocolate eclairs to students and teachers, who were able eat them as they browsed through the activities.

One of the new wellness past-times that the school provided for the students was a hypnotist by the name of Lorenzo.

Students were called up to the stage by the hypnotist and tricked into falling asleep, or pretending to ride a horse. The activity attracted a lot of student support with a large crowd attending the show.

Play-do was provided to mold with in the library as another de-stressing activity for students to participate in.

In contrast to Staples's first Wellness Day in October, the school was able to bring in therapy dogs, which are popular during midterm week. Teachers and other dog owners brought in their pets for student enjoyment.

Some students even opted to take selfies with the dogs.

Principal Thomas's email prior to the Wellness Day included a chart displaying which activities would be where, and to acknowledge that unlike the last Enrichment Day, the activities would no longer be divided amongst the grades of students.

The Wellness Activity Enrichment Day received positive feedback from students, and was a relaxing way to finish off school before Thanksgiving break.
